2025 Chevrolet Bolt EUV: Upcoming Electric SUV with Super Cruise Feature

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Overview

Looks like the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV, the SUV version of the popular electric car, is on track for sale next summer. The EUV is the second vehicle in the Bolt electric car family. It is slightly larger, more robust, and designed to resemble an SUV rather than a conventional car, offering more interior space for passengers and cargo. Importantly, the Bolt EUV will be the first vehicle outside the Cadillac brand to feature Super Cruise, the innovative driver-assistance technology that facilitates hands-free highway driving on mapped roads.

Sleeker Profile Sets Bolt EUV Apart

The teaser released by General Motors highlights the EUV’s significantly sleeker silhouette compared to the original Bolt hatchback. The new design boasts a roofline that terminates in a rear spoiler, creating a more dynamic appearance. Moreover, the beltline angles upward gently from the A-pillar and flares at the rear, giving the EUV a poised look, ready to take off.

This clean silhouette differentiates the EUV from the current 2020 Chevrolet Bolt, as it does not require a roofline that arches over the heads of the driver and passenger. The longer, streamlined lines make it instantly recognizable on the road, while the greenhouse design avoids an abrupt stop at the back, which characterizes the original Bolt, making it look somewhat stubby.

The EUV measures about five or six inches longer than the standard Bolt, with a wheelbase extending by three inches, resulting in additional backseat space. It is rumored to feature a sunroof, and a roof rack will enhance its utility. The wraparound taillights provide a distinctive look, while the headlights share similarities with those on the conventional Bolt.

GMC Hummer Electric Pickup and More Coming

For four years, the Chevy Bolt has represented GM’s commitment to electric vehicles. However, it will soon be overshadowed by a surge of new electric vehicles that GM is developing for various brands over the next five years. GM has announced its plan to introduce 20 new electric vehicles by 2023.

The rollout begins in the fall of 2021 with the 2022 GMC Hummer electric pickup, followed by an SUV variant, a full-size Chevy pickup, and a midsize two-row SUV for Chevy. Additionally, there are plans for two midsize electric crossovers for Buick, along with the Cadillac Lyriq midsize SUV and an Escalade-sized electric SUV. The luxurious Cadillac Celestiq, a large executive sedan featuring a hatchback design, is also in the pipeline. All of these vehicles will be built on GM’s new BEV3 dedicated EV architecture and will utilize the latest Ultium batteries, which promise faster charging and greater range.

Nevertheless, the updated 2021 Bolt and the introduction of the 2022 Bolt EUV will still be based on the current BEV2 platform, which is receiving some upgrades. Notably, the 2020 Bolt saw its range increase from 238 miles to an impressive 259 miles, alongside some cosmetic enhancements.

For 2021, the conventional Bolt will introduce more comfortable seating, upgraded dashboard materials, and an enhanced infotainment system. This electric vehicle will also include adaptive cruise control and a switch to a button-based gear selector, though the battery specifications remain unchanged.

The Bolt was recognized as the 2017 MotorTrend Car of the Year. However, since then, competition has intensified, particularly with the Tesla Model 3, which has surpassed the Bolt in both sales and overall market perception.
