General Motors is undergoing a rather dramatic shakeup across its current and future electric vehicle deployment plans, with low production and deliveries of models like the electric Hummer, Cadillac Lyriq, and now the Chevy Blazer EV experiencing a hold in sales over software issues. Amid the apparently halting progress, however, the automaker appears ready to move forward with its plans for the compact 2024 Chevy Equinox EV SUV, now announcing updated range, packaging, and pricing information for all of its front-wheel drive trims. Here’s what we know to expect so far with the Equinox EV this year.
Chevy Equinox Trim Breakdown
When the upcoming all-new Equinox EV was announced, Chevy promised the base model would offer 210 horsepower, 242 lb-ft of torque, and an estimated 250 miles of range for a price that would be “around $30,000.” Today, Chevy has confirmed the 1LT will start at $34,995 (including destination and freight charges but not taxes). This pricing is for the base, front-wheel drive 1LT trim, with a more expensive all-wheel drive 1LT version also likely to be offered (but not mentioned so far).
In early 2024, Chevy will announce a new launch edition of the Equinox EV, exclusively available in grey or black with the option for a black contrasted roof, based on one of the RS trim configurations. Further details should be disclosed later this spring.
Chevy confirmed that the front-wheel drive Equinox EV trims will be offered with as much as 319 miles of range. It’s possible a lower-range, more-affordable 1LT trim option with a smaller battery capacity was planned and since scrapped, as reported by Edmunds. There are still no details on battery capacity options for the various configurations, and we don’t yet know if the 1LT trim will get an AWD version or stick to just FWD.
We’ll know more once the full model lineup is announced, but you can expect up to 319 miles on a charge in the more affordable trim, which is a notable feature. Chevy claims that all-wheel drive Equinox EV trims should be capable of reaching up to 285 miles of range on a charge, with up to 288 horsepower.
Previously, the Equinox 1LT trim was announced to come with 19-inch wheels, an 11.5 kW Level 2 onboard charger that can provide up to 30 miles of range in an hour at home, an 11-inch interior touchscreen dashboard, and a standard safety package including automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision alert, and a following distance indicator. It appears that every trim, including the base, will now feature the 17.7-inch interior touchscreen, with the previously-advertised smaller unit no longer mentioned.
Chevy Equinox Pricing by Trim
- 1LT FWD starting at $34,995 (available later in 2024)
- 2LT FWD starting at $43,295
- 2RS FWD starting at $44,795
- 3LT FWD starting at $45,295
- 3RS FWD starting at $46,795
2024 Chevy Equinox EV Federal Tax Credit Availability
Good news for prospective Equinox EV shoppers: every trim of the upcoming model should be eligible for the available U.S. federal electric vehicle tax credit of up to $7,500 off the MSRP. The Equinox EV is planned to be assembled in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico using GM’s home-developed Ultium battery and chassis technology. GM confirmed the 1LT FWD model has an expected post-credit MSRP of $27,495, and the 2LT FWD has an expected post-credit MSRP of $35,795.
2024 Chevy Equinox EV Production and Delivery
In its initial Equinox EV announcement, Chevy planned to have the 2RS trim in production by fall of 2023 and the 1LT trim in production by spring of 2024, with the rest of the trim lineup to follow in fall 2024. However, things have been pushed back slightly. The Equinox EV is now entering production as a 2024 model year. Eventually, by the end of 2024, Chevy plans to begin base-model 1LT trim production as well, likely as a 2025 model year.
