2025 Electric Porsche SUV with 3 Rows: First Look at the Sizeable New P-Car

Porsche has been anything but quiet about its plans for future electrified models, bringing out the 2024 Porsche Macan E and the 2025 Porsche Taycan electric vehicles to market now, with plans to announce a hybrid 911 later this year. We also know to expect all-electric versions of the Porsche 718 coupe and roadster, and eventually, we should get an electric 3-row Porsche SUV, known only as the K1 for now. Here’s what you can expect based on our first real-world look at Porsche’s biggest-ever production car coming in the next few years.

Porsche’s three-row SUV, seen in this image gallery, boasts the face and design language of the new 2024 Porsche Macan E electric SUV while stretching its body proportions into something wider and longer. Each headlight features a four-dot matrix signature similar to other Porsche EV models. The squared-off but covered front bumper opens at the bottom for a shuttered grille. While some camouflage is present, the car appears to exhibit a boxy front end, flat sides, and a stacked, squeezed rear end.

Additional angles of the new vehicle reveal a significantly sloped roofline and a long, seemingly unbroken shoulder line under the greenhouse. This line leads to a wide-fendered rear featuring taillights in the form of a bar with a grid-like signature cut into the rear quarter panels. The silhouette shape of the greenhouse is obscured by camouflage near the rear windows, so the final outline could vary when uncovered.

Similar to the new Macan E, we would expect the K1 to feature advanced air suspension and damper technology that made its debut on the current Panamera, Macan E, and Taycan. It is anticipated to be built on the upcoming VW Group platform dubbed the Scalable Systems Platform (SSP), equipped with 900-volt technology for rapid charge times. The Macan E utilizes a different PPE SUV chassis, but its 12-module, 100-kWh battery pack claims to offer more than 300 miles of range. It’s uncertain if the innovations of the Macan E’s platform will carry over to the larger K1 SUV.

Porsche initially suggested that the new large electric SUV wouldn’t hit the market until around 2027 to 2030, but development appears to be progressing well and a debut could happen sooner. The K1 SUV will be manufactured alongside the Panamera and Macan in Leipzig, Germany.

Given the current images, it seems Porsche has opted to expand what could have been simply an electric Cayenne into a slightly larger vehicle to accommodate an optional third row. This strategy may help differentiate it in a competitive market, especially as Rivian and Tesla are both heavily investing in electric SUVs.

Go Farther

The upgrades and enhancements to the new Taycan prioritize the concerns noted with previous models, with range being a top consideration. In the past, performance eclipsed range as a primary focus, often yielding disappointing mileage numbers that fell short of consumer expectations.

New reports suggest that Porsche claims range improvements of as much as 35 percent. Exact figures are forthcoming, based on testing cycles that offer more generous range estimations. Reaching the 300-mile mark would undoubtedly enhance the Taycan’s appeal in today’s fast-evolving electric vehicle landscape.

The expanded Performance Battery Plus option, enhancing capacity while boosting performance, provides a considerable upgrade from previous models. This option supports increased horsepower and torque, affording drivers a significantly enhanced driving experience on highways and city streets alike.

Go Quicker, Charge Faster

While power was not a primary complaint for previous Taycan models, enhancements have been made to ensure each 2025 Taycan benefits from a lighter, yet more potent rear motor. Enhanced horsepower across models delivers a sportier experience, particularly for the base, rear-drive Taycan, which is now more dynamic and engaging than predecessors.

For those looking for the pinnacle of performance, the intriguing Taycan Turbo and Turbo S models deliver staggering acceleration figures and an exhilarating driving experience. With nearly 700 hp and rapid acceleration, the Turbo versions bring unparalleled sports car capabilities to the electric segment.

Moreover, advancements in charging capabilities allow the new Taycan to accept up to 320 kW from DC fast chargers, significantly minimizing downtime at charging stations. This improvement makes it one of the quickest-charging vehicles presently available.

Under the Knife

The enhancements leading to shorter charge times contribute to a more efficient ownership experience. Ensuing updates include new body panels and features that solidify Porsche’s commitment to innovation. Drivers will benefit from subtle yet noticeable shifts in performance and aesthetic improvements.

Go Up Around the Bend

Porsches are often recognized for their nimbleness, yet the Taycan challenges this notion with its capacity as a heavy electric vehicle. By reducing curb weight across models, Porsche enhances the driving experience while maintaining the superior equipment levels that consumers expect.

Significant technological innovations include the introduction of an electro-hydraulic damping system that seeks to enhance cornering performance and overall responsiveness. Such advancements empower the Taycan to adapt dynamically, delivering a performance-oriented driving experience that echoes Porsche’s racing heritage.

However, despite these promising features, some users may find subtle limitations in performance compared to the expectations set by Porsche’s storied history. The rear steering system, designed to facilitate maneuverability, may require further refinement to perfect its operation across diverse driving scenarios.

Go Fish

For those anticipating significant changes to the Taycan’s interior, the updates may come across as modest. The focus has shifted primarily to software enhancements that refine user interactions and integrate advanced connectivity options.

Notable among these updates is the deeper integration of Apple CarPlay, allowing users to control a variety of functionalities from a more unified interface. Additionally, Porsche’s effort to diversify the available instrument cluster views enhances the overall driving experience.

The new 2025 Taycan is expected to appear in American dealerships this summer, with a base price set to rise by nearly $10,000, reaching $101,395 post-delivery fees. The Taycan 4S presents a more balanced price increase, while the Turbo and Turbo S models see larger increases, laying a foundation for the premium positioning of Porsche’s electric lineup.
