2025 Jeep Gladiator 4xe Preview
If you had any concern about the at-times slow-selling Jeep Gladiator truck going away, we bring you good news. Not only will the Gladiator be back for the 2025 model year following a refresh this year, it’s also gaining a new 4xe plug-in hybrid (PHEV) trim. Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa confirmed the 2025 Jeep Gladiator 4xe on LinkedIn, which is a peculiar place to confirm a new model.
In the post, Filosa lauded the Gladiator’s trademark Jeep open-air “freedom.” He then went on to confirm the Gladiator 4xe, saying: “Next year, we’ll extend that freedom of choice even further with a Gladiator 4xe option.”
Filosa didn’t share any details beyond confirming that the 2025 Jeep Gladiator 4xe is happening; however, it doesn’t take a private detective’s license to piece together a clear picture. Just look at the current 4xe models, like the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler, for clues. Particularly, the Wrangler 4xe offers a similar powertrain arrangement in a frame comparable to the Gladiator’s.
Keen eyes will notice the images in this article are of the 2024 Jeep Gladiator. While Jeep hasn’t shared any images of the 2025 model yet, we don’t anticipate the 2025 Gladiator 4xe will differ significantly in appearance. Expect it to inherit the same blue tow hooks, badging, and optional graphics found on other 4xe models like the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee.
We suspect that the 4xe will replace the Gladiator’s standard 285-hp 3.6-liter V-6 with the same hybrid-assisted turbo four-cylinder powertrain found in the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. This 2.0-liter turbo I-4 engine contributes 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, enhanced by a 44-hp, 39-lb-ft electric starter/generator motor acting on the accessory drive belt, along with a 134-hp, 181-lb-ft traction motor installed where the torque converter typically resides in the eight-speed automatic transmission. Therefore, total system power is expected to reach a robust 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.
There is a possibility that the Gladiator may feature a larger battery pack than the Wrangler 4xe’s 17.3-kWh unit, which could offer enhanced range compared to the Wrangler’s 22-mile EV-only figure. Given the Gladiator’s greater length and longer wheelbase, it might accommodate a more extensive battery pack beneath the rear half of the cab. Nonetheless, no plug-in hybrid in the Stellantis lineup in America (including the 4xes and Dodge’s Hornet PHEV) currently offers a battery larger than that of the Wrangler/Grand Cherokee 4xes. Additionally, due to the Gladiator’s size, it could potentially provide greater towing ability than the Wrangler 4xe’s existing 3,500-pound rating.
Expect some of the same options from the current Gladiator and Wrangler 4xe models, such as the technology group and trailer tow group, to carry over. There may also be a new exterior color option and a graphics package. Considering that we’re discussing a 2025 model, we anticipate Jeep will release further details before the close of this year, so stay tuned for updates.
