Introducing the 2025 Lotus Emeya EV
While the rarely seen Lotus Evija hypercar introduced the world to the concept of an electric-powered Lotus, it was the Lotus Eletre SUV that truly marked the beginning of the company’s radical re-invention for the EV age. Now, meet the Lotus Emeya, an electric-powered four-door GT that represents a significant departure from the traditional designs of this storied British sports car maker.
“This is a Lotus like you have never seen before,” says Ben Payne, vice-president of design for Lotus Group. The Emeya’s front end design shows influences from the Eletre electric SUV, while integrating a substantial amount of Eletre hardware beneath its sleek exterior.
Performance and Specifications
Scheduled to begin production in 2024, with U.S. deliveries expected to start in 2025, the new Emeya R EV boasts an impressive 905 hp and 727 lb-ft of torque, attributed to a dual-motor EV powertrain shared with the top-spec Eletre R. Lotus claims the Emeya can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds. Comparatively, however, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S managed this feat in 2.4 seconds during testing.
Both the Emeya and Emeya S generate 605 horsepower with a 0-60 mph time of 4 seconds. The S trim incorporates lightweight brakes and 21-inch wheels, offering a different driving experience with varied range capabilities.
Battery and Range
The Emeya is equipped with a robust 102 kWh battery, anticipated to exceed the Taycan Turbo S’s EPA-rated 222 miles. Its 800V electrical architecture is designed to facilitate fast charging, achieving 10% to 80% in just 15 minutes with a 350 kW fast charger. Moreover, a mere five minutes of charging can add up to 93 miles of range.
In the UK, the Emeya R is expected to offer a range of 270 to 310 miles, while the standard Emeya and Emeya S trims can achieve between 310 and 379 miles of range.
Aerodynamics and Suspension
The Emeya’s striking exterior is complemented by active aerodynamic features that enhance performance. Key elements include an active front grille that adjusts for drag reduction, an active air lip that increases front axle downforce, and an active dual-layer rear spoiler capable of generating up to 474 pounds of downforce.
Utilizing semi-active electronically controlled air suspension and 22-inch wheels, the Emeya aims for superior handling and ride comfort. This model, following the Eletre, is also one of the few Lotus vehicles to feature electric power steering attached directly to the chassis, ensuring excellent feedback while driving.
Interior Features
The interior of the Emeya showcases a blend of high-quality materials, including a new sustainable fabric made from repurposed cotton scraps sourced from fashion and garment industries. This innovative material is said to be lighter than leather and boasts a lower carbon footprint in its production process.
Occupants will interact with the Emeya’s systems via a large central touchscreen, featuring a premium KEF audio system with advanced noise cancellation capabilities. Additionally, driver and passenger slim OLED displays provide essential data. A high-tech augmented reality head-up display delivers real-time information concerning navigation and driver assistance alerts, enhancing safety and awareness on the road.
Conclusion
More detailed information regarding pricing and specifications for the Emeya will be available later this year. In the UK, pricing starts at 106,400 Euros ($116,254) for the basic Emeya model, 126,950 Euros ($138,707) for the S variant, and 150,990 Euros ($164,973) for the premium R model.
