2025 Mercedes-Benz EQS Review: Enhanced Range and Improved Brake Design

2025 Mercedes-Benz EQS Electric Sedan: Upgrades and Features

Designed as the electric-powered equivalent to the storied full-size S-Class, the Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan emerged just three years ago. However, due to rapid advancements in EV technology, the EQS has received a multitude of upgrades for the 2025 model year, enhancing its range and features. Fortunately, the pricing remains unchanged.

More Range—But How?

The battery capacity of the EQS has been increased from 108.4 kWh to 118 kWh. There has been no change in the physical size of the battery. According to Holger Enzmann, the head of the EQS project at Mercedes-Benz, revisions to the battery chemistry have enabled engineers to improve energy storage by 10 percent. This means that capacity can be increased without altering the pack’s physical dimensions. “The stress on the battery was lower than we expected,” says Enzmann.

Additional upgrades include a standard heat pump that utilizes waste heat from the inverter and battery to warm the interior, improving overall efficiency by five percent. Furthermore, the front e-motor on the all-wheel-drive EQS450 4Matic can now disconnect from the axle under light loads, reducing mechanical drag and enhancing efficiency. The system reconnects when acceleration or traction is needed, accomplishing this in just 100 milliseconds.

The EQS450 4Matic models can recuperate up to 290 kW during braking, with improvements made to the braking system based on user feedback. The brake pedal now provides a sportier feel, eliminating the previous self-adjusting mechanism.

Consequently, the EQS450 4Matic sees an 11 percent or more improvement in range, hitting 370 miles per charge. While the EPA’s testing may yield slightly lower range estimates, this remains a significant upgrade.

The brake system includes automated cleaning of the brake pads against the rotors to enhance performance, while structural changes have increased towing capacity to 3,800 pounds, reflecting practical use among EQS owners.

It’s the Little Things

Many of the remaining upgrades are either cosmetic or focused on enhancing passenger comfort. A noteworthy feature is the new Electric Art Line package, which provides a distinctive chrome accent. The stylish design maintains a shapely profile that reflects the EQS’s elegance, even if some features may not be visible to the driver.

Inside, the standard inclusion of the impressive 56-inch MBUX Hyperscreen across the dashboard signifies a leap in technology, now found in all EQS models. This innovative display elevates the driving experience with advanced digital features.

Moreover, recognizing trends where many EQS cars are chauffeur-driven, the optional Rear Comfort Package Plus provides features like an angled footrest, enhancing passenger comfort. Front passenger seats can fold flat for improved visibility, while rear seats offer adjustable backrest angles and added heating features.

The upgraded 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQS is set to be available in the U.S. soon, promising an all-encompassing luxurious electric driving experience.
