Broadway’s finest were recognized Sunday night at the Tony Awards, which took place at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City.
Oscar and Tony award winner Ariana DeBose returned to host the telecast for the third time.
The Daniel Aukin-directed production “Stereophonic,” a play set in the ’70s about a fictional band, was the evening’s big winner with five Tonys, including best direction and best play.
“The Outsiders,” a musical co-produced by Angelina Jolie and based on the S.E. Hinton novel, scored four wins. “Merrily We Roll Along,” featuring first-time Tony winners Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff, also won four Tonys.
Kecia Lewis wins the award for best performance by an actress in a featured role in a musical for her role in “Hell’s Kitchen.” Brendan McDermid/Reuters
