2025 Toyota GR Supra Review
It’s one of our top two premium sports cars, so it’s sufficient to say that we do love the Toyota GR Supra. The 3.0-liter turbocharged I-6 is powerful and smooth, it looks great and distinct from its BMW sister, and you still get a manual. However, for 2025, the GR Supra will drop the four-cylinder engine option, offering only two trims available.
Sales Trends and Production Insights
While Toyota didn’t explicitly state why the 2.0-liter GR Supra didn’t make it to the 2025 model year, its most likely due to declining sales figures. The 2024 Model year GR Supra only saw 2,652 total units sold, and, most likely, only a small percentage of those were four-cylinder cars. Consequently, sales figures for the Supra in 2023 were down just over 46 percent compared to 2022. There is also the issue that both the GR Supra and its BMW Z4 sister car are potentially ending production in March 2026.
Handling and Performance Improvements
If there was one issue to point out, it was that the GR Supra was a bit tail happy. Toyota made some suspension changes in 2023, but that never alleviated the issue. Yes, a car that is easy to drift is always great for hooning laughs, but it can really make a driver work more than necessary while trying to set a fast lap time. According to Toyota, they have addressed the snap-off oversteer—when the car wants to lose rear grip when coming off the accelerator. A new Anti-Roll Program has been programmed in the Traction Control (TRAC) system for both the manual and automatic equipped cars. This is combined with the regular VSC to intervene at an earlier point, helping mitigate the sudden loss of grip during snap-off oversteer when the high-response suspension setting is used.
Moreover, another issue that was plaguing the manual GR Supra was power oversteer. For 2025, a new TRAC tune has been programmed to intervene more during acceleration out of a corner. According to Toyota, this allows “the right amount of power for a sporty experience.” We will need to drive it to see if that’s enough without compromising the handling or feel of the GR Supra, but at least Toyota is addressing both oversteer issues effectively.
Model Trims and Features
The remaining engine itself hasn’t been changed, as the 3.0-liter turbocharged I-6 produces 382 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque for its standard Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires to manage. The eight-speed auto can achieve a 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds while the manual manages 4.2 seconds, ensuring seamless merging with traffic or powering out of corners during track days.
Both the 3.0 and 3.0 Premium trims—the only two trims available on the 2025 GR Supra—come with Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), which automatically controls the damping rates of the shocks with Normal, Sport, and Individual modes. These modes also adjust throttle response, rev matching, and power steering settings. Additionally, you’ll receive a full year National Auto Sport Association (NASA) membership that grants access to a single free High Performance Driving Event (HPDE) to showcase your GR Supra in a safe environment.
What differs the 3.0 and 3.0 Premium trims are interior features. The 3.0 includes standard soft-touch Alcantara and leather-trimmed sport seats with power adjustments. A 205-Watt, 10 speaker sound system with an 8.8-inch touchscreen provides your entertainment needs. You’ll also benefit from wireless Apple CarPlay as standard, as well as a wireless Qi charger in manual transmission-equipped GR Supras.
The 3.0 Premium features optional black leather-trimmed seats or hazelnut-colored leather trim. Additionally, it comes with a 12 speaker, 500-Watt JBL Hi-Fi system as standard. If you opt for an automatic transmission, full-speed adaptive cruise control is included. Manual GR Supras will receive only traditional cruise control. Furthermore, the Premium offers advanced safety features such as blind spot monitoring, navigation, rear cross traffic alert, and emergency braking functionality.
No matter which transmission you opt for, the 2025 Toyota GR Supra 3.0 trim starts at $57,345, while the 3.0 Premium Trim starts at $60,495. Expect this refreshed Toyota sports car to arrive at your dealership lots in the fall.
