2025 Volkswagen ID.7 EV Sedan Features and Pricing Overview

The 2025 Volkswagen ID7: A Near-Luxury Electric Sedan

Volkswagen is thrilled about its new 2025 ID7, introducing a segment it terms as “near-luxury.” While not an officially recognized category like luxury or mainstream, this designation highlights Volkswagen’s enthusiasm for the ID7 as it faces tough competition from electric vehicles such as the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6.

First Impressions and Trims

During our first look at the 2025 Volkswagen ID7 last April, we gathered plenty of insights from the automaker, although some details remained undisclosed. Key information regarding driving range, pricing, and specific features tailored for the U.S. market is still forthcoming. However, Volkswagen has finally revealed details about the two available trims: Pro S and Pro S Plus. If the naming sounds familiar, it is because these trims echo some designations from the ID4 EV SUV.

Specifications

Both trims will feature a standard 82 kWh battery paired with rear-wheel drive and a single motor generating 282 horsepower. There’s also an option to upgrade to dual-motor all-wheel drive, utilizing a motor at both ends of the vehicle, which Volkswagen brands as “4motion,” similar to its gasoline models. All-wheel-drive models will produce 335 horsepower.

Performance and Efficiency

While Volkswagen has not disclosed the expected driving range, the same battery and motor configuration boasts a range of 382 miles according to the highly optimistic European WLTP cycle. However, one can expect lower EPA estimated mileage for the North American market ID7.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the ID7 is engineered around a 15-inch infotainment screen, serving as the central hub of functionality, especially since traditional instrumentation is largely absent. There is a small horizontal display that provides essential driver information, but the primary interaction interface is through the infotainment screen.

Advanced Features

The standard package includes Volkswagen’s “IQ drive” driving assist suite, which requires active participation from the driver. This includes features like driver-initiated lane changes, park distance control, and memory parking assist.

Trim Enhancements

The Pro S Plus trim boasts 20-inch wheels, adaptive damping, and dynamic steering. Moreover, it includes heated front seats with a massage function and a premium 700-watt, 14-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system.

Conclusion

In summary, it appears that the ID7 is equipped with a compelling range of features that may present a strong alternative to its competitors. However, the question of pricing remains unanswered. Volkswagen plans to disclose the price closer to the ID7’s release in Q3 of this year. We anticipate the MSRP will start around $50,000 for the Pro S trim and $55,000 for the Pro S Plus, placing it slightly above Tesla’s Model 3 and on the upper spectrum of the Ioniq 6 price range.
