2026 Jeep Compass: Comprehensive Guide to Specs, Design, and Features

2026 Jeep Compass: Major Improvements Ahead

There is sort of a love-hate relationship when it comes to the current Jeep Compass. Sure, it’s a great and capable entry-level off-roader with standard AWD, but it’s average and overpriced when compared to the rest of the segment. This is especially true when you consider that the market includes the Ford Bronco Sport, the Subaru Crosstrek, and the Hyundai Kona. Despite the formidable competition, it appears that the Compass will carry on; however, for the 2026 model year, there are some significant changes in store.

Exterior Design Changes

Jeep isn’t showing much beyond the teaser image, but Stellantis did detail the platform on which the 2026 Compass will be built. This indicates the powertrains the entry-level off-roader will bring to the table. For 2026, the Compass is much closer to the current design of the Grand Cherokee, featuring many of the same muscular lines that have defined it since 2021. It will also have a set of fender extensions that will help accentuate that this isn’t just another soft-roader. Therefore, it is expected to continue offering a true, off-road capable SUV experience in the subcompact category.

Powertrain Options

The new Compass will be built on the Stellantis STLA Medium platform, which currently does not underpin any U.S.-market vehicles. Consequently, the 2026 Jeep Compass will mark our first experience with it, along with the 2028 Alfa Romeo Giulietta, provided Alfa survives in the U.S. long enough. Powertrain options for the 2026 Compass will include:

  • A fully electric version
  • A hybrid version
  • A fully ICE-powered version

While STLA Medium was always intended to support battery electric vehicles, Stellantis has ensured that its platforms offer powertrain flexibility, which is essential in today’s automotive market.

Production and Availability

Because the STLA Medium platform is predominantly used in Europe, the production of the Compass will begin in Melfi, Italy, in 2025 and expand into the U.S. and the rest of the globe by 2026. Although the price and debut timeline were not officially revealed, there are hopes that Jeep will reduce its price, as the automaker is facing serious challenges in the current market landscape.
