Traveling from Florence to Rome: A Guide

A visit to Italy is not complete without experiencing Rome, the eternal city. Traveling to Rome from Florence is relatively easy and inexpensive when taking the Italian express train, Freccia. A second-class ticket costs less than 50 euros and will transport you in about 1½ hours (one-way) from Santa Maria Novella to Rome Termini.
2. Must-See Sights in Rome
Upon arriving at Rome Termini, the next step is to take the escalator down to the Metro. For just 6 euros, you can ride the Metro for a full day and visit many of Rome’s famous landmarks.
My first destination was the Colosseo (Colosseum). Although the line appeared daunting at first, it was worth the wait. To avoid the lengthy queue, I discovered that I could purchase a ticket at the Guided Audio Tour window for 15 euros. This allowed me quick access to one of Rome’s most ancient monuments, where I marveled at the architectural grandeur of this magnificent arena.
Next, I strolled to the Foro Romano (Roman Forum), the ancient heart of the Roman Empire. This area is filled with the ruins of temples, basilicas, and nearby museums on Capitol Hill. It is a visual wonderland that showcases the power and strength of ancient Rome. Additionally, the Colosseum ticket provides admission to the Forum, which is a fantastic bonus.
After exploring the Forum, I headed towards the Fontana Di Trevi (Trevi Fountain). Although packed with tourists as expected, the stunning Baroque fountain dedicated to Neptune is a must-see. It serves as an excellent spot for enjoying delicious gelato. A brief 5-10 minute walk from there leads to the Pantheon, another remarkable glimpse into the splendor of Rome.
The final stop on my Roman tour was the famous Spanish Steps at Piazza Di Spagna. This is yet another iconic gathering place for tourists who share their excitement about the wonders of Rome. The Metro makes it easy to return to Rome Termini for the trip back to Florence.
