The Kookie T: A Timeless Custom

The Kookie T

The Kookie T, built by Norm Grabowski over 65 years ago, has set the gold standard for virtually every T-bucket created since. Grabowski began with a 1922 Model T purchased for just $5, transforming it into one of the most influential custom cars of its era.

Kookie T Featured in Magazines

This remarkable vehicle graced several magazine covers, including the October 1955 issue of iBestTravel. It was also featured on the covers of Car Craft, Rod Builder, and Life, as well as making appearances on the show 77 Sunset Strip.

Restored Kookie T

Norm sold the Kookie T in 1959, and over the years, it experienced several cosmetic changes until it faded into obscurity. Fortunately, it resurfaced at a Mecum auction in 2018, where the new owner undertook a meticulous restoration to revive the car’s iconic appearance as seen in Car Craft back in 1957. Roy Brizio Street Rods, with contributions from Speedway Motors, completed the restoration, making the Kookie T a shining example of their craftsmanship and once again placing it on the cover of iBestTravel—65 years after its first appearance. Inside this issue, readers can explore the legendary history of this iconic vehicle and view exclusive images of its restoration journey.

A Stunning 1963 Ford Galaxie

1963 Ford Galaxie

Next up, we showcase a magnificent 1963 Ford Galaxie, owned by Stan Johnson for over twenty years. This classic car is powered by a 427 FE engine paired with a four-speed manual transmission, which has been upgraded to 487 cubic inches using high-performance components from Scat Crankshafts and Mahle Motorsports. The vehicle is perfectly complemented by Torque Thrust wheels fitted with BFG tires.

Larry Larson’s Drag Racer

Larry Larson's Cadillac ATS

Another highlight is the Cadillac ATS built by multiple Drag Week champion Larry Larson. Typically not a car we would focus on, the ATS garners attention due to its purpose-built design for No Prep drag racing. The Proline-built 572 engine, combined with a massive 140mm turbocharger, pushes the limits of performance, making this build truly remarkable.

Technical Features: Factory Five Drift Truck Build

Factory Five Drift Truck Build

On the technical side, we provide an update on the ongoing Factory Five Drift Truck build. This month, we delve into the fuel system components designed to supply a 1,000-horsepower engine with E85, thanks to an innovative solution from Aeromotive.

Modernizing Your Gauges

Gauge Upgrades with Redline Gauge Works

Additionally, we explore the often-overlooked topic of gauges. Building a car is one challenge, but ensuring modern functionality while retaining the classic aesthetic is another. Redline Gauge Works demonstrates how to incorporate a GPS speedometer and a stepper-motor controlled tachometer into an elegant stock gauge cluster.
