2021 Hyundai Veloster N Overview
For the mid-cycle facelift of the Veloster N, which has garnered attention within the automotive industry, Hyundai is now offering a new N-engineered wet dual-clutch eight-speed transmission. This new option is available alongside the traditional six-speed manual transmission in the 2021 Veloster N, providing enthusiasts with more versatility and performance capabilities.
2021 Hyundai Veloster N: Eight-Speed Wet Dual Clutch
Hyundai’s in-house developed eight-speed dual-clutch transmission features an innovative shifter design that maximizes driving engagement. The shifting dynamics allow for aggressive downshifts activated by pushing the gearshift forward as braking g-forces push the driver forward. Conversely, upshifts are executed by pulling the gearshift back, allowing the driver to experience thrilling acceleration.
The term “wet” refers to the clutches in this transmission, which are immersed in a cooling fluid, typically oil. This design ensures optimal performance by maintaining the ideal temperature for the clutches, contrasting with the “dry” dual-clutch systems that lack such lubrication.
2021 Hyundai Veloster N: N Grin Shift (NGS)
The Veloster N features an exciting N Grin Shift (NGS) functionality, which temporarily boosts peak torque from 260 lb-ft to an impressive 278 lb-ft. This feature enables enhanced performance through a temporary turbocharger over-boost, maximizing transmission response and providing an exhilarating driving experience. When conditions are optimal, NGS can sustain this torque increase for up to 20 seconds, ideal for overtaking maneuvers.
Hyundai estimates that with this feature activated, the Veloster N can achieve a swift 0-60 mph time of 5.6 seconds, showcasing the capability of this exciting hatchback.
2021 Hyundai Veloster N: Updated Interior Features
The cabin of the 2021 Veloster N boasts a new eight-inch touchscreen display. This update enhances ease of access to the dual-clutch transmission’s features, including optimal gear selection, rev matching, launch control, and overboost functions. Additionally, new standard cloth and leatherette sport seats have been introduced, featuring updated side bolsters and an illuminated N logo.
This model also includes previously optional driver assistance features that are now standard, such as forward collision-avoidance assist, lane-following assist, lane-keeping assist, driver attention warning, blind spot collision-avoidance assist, and rear cross-traffic collision warning, enhancing both safety and convenience on the road.
2021 Hyundai Veloster N: Performance Packages and Color Options
The performance-oriented features previously found in the optional Performance Package have now been made standard. Furthermore, a new gray paint option replaces the previous Chalk White color, allowing buyers to choose a more sophisticated finish for their vehicle.
The 2021 Hyundai Veloster N is set to go on sale this October, offering both performance enhancements and stylish upgrades to enthusiasts and everyday drivers alike.
