Toyota Recalls Over 300,000 Vehicles
iBestTravel has reported that Toyota issued three separate recalls impacting several models and model years, including the Tundra, Sequoia, Lexus, Camry, Camry Hybrid, and Mirai vehicles. This announcement affects more than 300,000 vehicles.
Notably, Toyota plans to notify owners of all involved vehicles for these recalls by late April 2024.
The primary recall addresses a transmission issue in certain Tundra, Sequoia, and Lexus models, prompting the need for around 280,000 vehicle corrections. This malfunction may allow certain vehicles to continue moving after being placed in neutral. Consequently, there is an increased risk of accidents.
“Certain parts of the transmission may not disengage immediately when shifted to neutral,” Toyota explained. “This issue can lead to some engine power being transferred to the wheels, potentially causing the vehicle to creep forward at low speeds on flat surfaces without applied brakes.”
Additionally, approximately 4,000 Toyota Camry and Camry Hybrid vehicles in the U.S. are involved in another recall due to a back seat head restraint issue. This concern may render the vehicles non-compliant with federal safety standards.
The third recall affects around 19,000 Mirai vehicles, as well as certain 2023-2024 Lexus LS, LC, and ES models in North America, Asia, and Japan. This recall is due to a software issue with the rearview camera.
Vehicles Involved in the Recalls
Several models and model years are included in these recalls:
- 2022-2024 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid
- 2023-2024 Sequoia
- 2022-2024 Lexus LX 600
- 2023-2024 Camry and Camry Hybrid
- 2023 Mirai
- 2023-2024 Lexus LS
- 2023-2024 Lexus LC
- 2023-2024 Lexus ES
This latest recall action follows an earlier recall involving 50,000 vehicles due to airbag issues. Certain Corollas and RAV4s equipped with airbags were affected, accompanied by a “Do Not Drive” advisory issued by Toyota.
In this advisory, Toyota emphasized the importance of contacting a dealer and refraining from driving the affected vehicles until repairs are completed. The dealer can provide various free repair options, such as mobile repairs at the vehicle’s location, towing to a dealership, or pickup and delivery services.
How to Check for a Recall
Vehicle recalls are relatively common, as manufacturers consistently monitor vehicle safety. Therefore, it is essential to stay informed about any recalls that may involve your vehicle.
You can easily check for manufacturer recalls for any vehicle model at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website by entering your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or license plate information.
To verify recalls specific to any Toyota model, it is recommended to visit the company’s safety recall website. Staying informed can help ensure your vehicle operates safely and efficiently.
