Discover a Quintessential British Experience in Bath
The longer I’ve called the UK home, the more I’ve realized that my friends aren’t just hopping across the pond to visit me; they seek the authentic British experience. This became evident when my friend from New York stopped by on her way to a destination wedding in Portugal. To make this trip special, I decided to embrace everything quintessentially British. A weekend break to Bath, a city proudly wearing the UNESCO World Heritage Site badge, was the perfect choice.
Finding the Perfect Homestay
I sought a place rich in history, reflective of the Georgian architecture Bath is renowned for, while also being conveniently located within the city. After a thorough search online, I discovered Through the Ages on iBestTravel’s recommended list. The photos showcased a stunning Georgian flat—spacious, airy, and just a 15-minute walk to the Roman Baths.
Arrival in Bath
We arrived on a sunny, brisk Friday morning, ready to indulge in our Bridgerton dreams. We parked at the Charlotte Street Parking lot, just seven minutes away, and took a pleasant walk through the leafy streets of Bath to our beautiful weekend home. Upon discovering the third-floor flat, we immediately recognized it as a hidden gem. High ceilings and tall sash windows created a true sense of openness and light throughout the space.
Interior Design that Captivates
The flat leans into that 18th-century glamour, showcasing a decor style that might appear dated but perfectly matched our holiday desires. It featured glamorous, old-timey design elements like beaded fringe lamps, Fabergé-style eggs, and cast-iron fireplaces. Moreover, I adored the sweeping windows overlooking Bath’s famous Royal Crescent. The afternoon passed blissfully as we listened to music, sipped wine, and enjoyed the vibrant activity on the green in front of the Royal Crescent.
Bedrooms and Comfort
The flat comprises two bedrooms. The smaller room offers views of the green, adorned with vintage wall lights and a sumptuous bed ideal for morning lie-ins. Positioned conveniently next to the all-marble bathroom, it boasts a deep tub for an evening soak. The master bedroom features panelled walls, high ceilings, and expansive windows overlooking a peaceful allotment. A king-sized bed in the center, stacked with luxurious pillows, ensured a restful stay. The en-suite bathroom added to the comfort, complete with a cozy fireplace. A lofted area accommodates an additional bed for younger guests. Consequently, it was the perfect start to our weekend getaway.
Exploring Bath
The remainder of the weekend was spent walking through Bath, immersing ourselves in the city’s rich history and honey-hued streets lined with independent shops and eateries. While we were there, the Jane Austen Festival added a delightful twist to our explorations. The convenient location of our homestay facilitated easy access to the city center, allowing us to enjoy our surroundings fully. Although we encountered minor issues with the water boiler, the response from the team was prompt and helpful. Our time at Through the Ages was so enjoyable that we’re considering making this a yearly tradition. I would happily comply with my friends’ desires to experience this enchanting side of the UK annually, especially if it means staying here once more.
