Intensive Air Campaign in Lebanon

Israel launched an intensive air campaign in southern and eastern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group operating out of the country. As a result of these strikes, nearly 500 people were killed and approximately 1,800 others were wounded, marking it as the deadliest day in Lebanon in nearly two decades.

Furthermore, these strikes occurred less than a week after an attack by Israel’s intelligence service and military, which took place when hundreds of pagers carried by Hezbollah members in Lebanon exploded nearly simultaneously.

In retaliation, Hezbollah fired multiple rocket barrages into northern Israel. Notably, on Wednesday, Israel intercepted a missile launched by the militant group near Tel Aviv. This unprecedented attack marked the first ballistic missile directed towards Israel by Hezbollah, reaching deep into the country’s commercial heartlands.

Escalation of Tensions

Israel and Hezbollah have been entrenched in a tit-for-tat escalation since the onset of the ongoing war in Gaza. However, the recent intensified attacks by Israel on Hezbollah have sparked heightened concerns regarding the potential for a wider regional war.
