Museum of the Future in Dubai

Housed in an architecturally stunning building adorned with poetic Arabic calligraphy, Dubai’s Museum of the Future aims to transport visitors to the year 2071. This innovative space inspires discussions about scientific and technological advancements that humanity may achieve.

Unlike traditional museums that showcase the past, the Museum of the Future invites visitors to engage their senses in interactive exhibits, encouraging them to envision the vast possibilities that the future holds.

Along with its permanent exhibit, the museum seeks to collaborate with leading scientists in the region to position Dubai as a testbed for emerging technologies. The goal is to create an exploration base for inventors and creative professionals from around the globe, tackling the greatest challenges shaping humanity’s future.

Exhibits within the Museum of the Future

Nine years in the making, the museum’s permanent exhibits allow visitors to explore advancements in science and technology anticipated by the year 2071.

• One exhibit transports visitors to a space station 600 miles above Earth, imagining how the moon could transform into a source of renewable energy.
• Another area recreates the Amazon rainforest, showcasing various species and unseen parts of the forest.

The museum also includes a section dedicated to children, known as Future Heroes. Designed like video games, children engage in problem-solving challenges while earning badges for their achievements.

To counteract potential digital fatigue from the technology-focused exhibits, one area serves as a sanctuary. This space encourages visitors to disconnect from tech, enabling them to reconnect with their mind, body, and spirit.

The Architecture of the Museum of the Future

Constructed from stainless steel and glass, the museum is a striking addition to the Dubai skyline, embodying the very scientific innovation it aims to inspire.

The building’s unique round shape hollows at the center, resembling a human eye gazing towards the future. The exterior consists of 1,024 separate panels—a nod to the 1,024 bytes in a kilobyte, the fundamental unit of digital storage.

Each panel is intricately crafted through algorithms and robots, mapping over 14,000 meters of Arabic script, featuring three poetic quotes from UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. One particularly inspiring quote states, “The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it, and execute it. It isn’t something you await, but rather create.”

Visiting the Museum of the Future

The museum is open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Timed entry tickets must be purchased in advance. The cost is 145 AED (approximately £30, US$40, or €36) for adults and for children over the age of three. Children under three enjoy free entry.
