2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost: Luxury Redefined
Aimed at a new demographic of business professionals looking for a smaller, “less conspicuous,” and more minimalist designs for a Rolls-Royce model, the long-awaited 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost has arrived. Succeeding the Series II Ghost, which debuted in 2009, this second-generation Ghost is the most technologically laden Rolls-Royce yet.
Interior and Technology Features
The all-new 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost has undergone significant transformation on the inside since its last update in 2014. A newly developed feature is the illuminated fascia, adding a touch of elegance with stars and a Ghost nameplate display. More than 850 glowing “stars” spread across the iconic Rolls-Royce Starlight Headliner create an outer-space experience for rear passengers. Safety and driver-assistance technologies include a four-camera system providing a panoramic view, collision warning, active cruise control, vision assist, and lane-departure warnings.
Moreover, the soundproofing and audio quality have been improved. Key features such as a resonance chamber and two active microphones enhance the listening experience. The Microenvironment Purification System (MEPS) automatically detects ambient air quality and adjusts cabin air accordingly.
Drivetrain, Powertrain, and Suspension
Built on an aluminum-spaceframe architecture, the best-selling model in Rolls-Royce history is now available with all-wheel drive. The standard twin-turbo, 6.75-liter V-12 engine is rated at 563 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The latest Ghost is longer, wider, and slightly heavier than its predecessor, with impressive acceleration from 0-60 mph in just 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph.
Furthermore, the Ghost features a completely redesigned suspension system known as the Planar Suspension System. This innovative setup has been developed over ten years to create a sense of flight on land. With its upper-wishbone damper and a “Flagbearer” camera system that reads the road ahead, the Planar system proactively adapts the suspension for optimal comfort and performance.
Design Updates
The exterior design is highlighted by 20 LED lights beneath the radiator grille, softly illuminating its top. Both doors operate electronically and feature a seamless design with proportionate windows. Rolls-Royce notes that the car offers an equally pleasurable driving experience whether you’re behind the wheel or enjoying the ride as a passenger, evoking the classic days of coachbuilt models such as the Silver Dawn and Silver Cloud.
