Interested visitors can obtain a certificate for the ERFS (Entrants, Returnees Follow-up System) through their travel agency. Once processed, this document allows you to apply for a visa at your local Japanese embassy or directly with the agency.
eVisa Availability for US and Canadian Citizens
A recent eVisa scheme allows US and Canadian citizens to apply for tourist and business travel visas online. Before initiating the application, travelers need to obtain the ERFS certificate through their travel agency. Special considerations apply to those visiting family members, who must provide proof of kinship instead of applying for the ERFS.
COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements
Japan categorizes countries based on COVID-19 risk, labeled as blue, yellow, or red. Travelers from blue countries can either present proof of vaccination or take a COVID-19 test before traveling. Notable blue countries include the US, UK, Australia, and others. Additional requirements apply for travelers from yellow and red countries, such as mandatory testing upon arrival and quarantine measures.
