The Best New Hotels in the UK for 2023
Some of the best places to stay in the world are hotels in the UK – so iBestTravel is always excited about new arrivals to the scene. Whether they are city-slicking hotels in London or fresh beachfront hotels across the UK, these are the hotel openings we’re most thrilled about this year.
How We Choose the Best New Hotels in the UK
Every hotel on this list has been selected independently by our editors and written by a iBestTravel journalist. The hotels that have already opened have been reviewed by an editor who has stayed at that property. When choosing hotels, our editors consider both luxury properties and boutique and lesser-known boltholes that offer an authentic and insider experience of a destination. We’re always looking for beautiful design, a great location, and warm service, as well as serious sustainability credentials. The hotels that have yet to open are from hotel groups that we know and love.
Hotels Opening in 2023
Raffles at the OWO, London
Is this London’s most anticipated hotel of 2023? Potentially. Hotel group Raffles is taking over the Old War Office in Whitehall, marking the first time the building, which stopped being used by the Ministry of Defence in the 1960s, will open to the public. Eleven restaurants and bars will be set across the hotel. Check in for a serious James Bond moment – the OWO has starred in all of Daniel Craig’s recent films.
Slieve Donard Hotel, Northern Ireland
This is the first Northern Irish property from Marine & Lawn – a young hotel group making a name for itself revamping golf hotels in Scotland. The 180-room hotel has been around for 125 years but is set to reopen with a new look. Expect widescreen views of the Mourne Mountains and County Down coastline, alongside a handful of restaurants celebrating the best of local produce.
Broadwick Soho, London
This West End spot is set to open in November – on the corner of two of Soho’s buzziest thoroughfares, Broadwick Street and Berwick Street. The townhouse vibes were overseen by designer Martin Brudnizki, known for opulent interiors and quirky details. A restaurant, Dear Jackie, will be complemented by a vibrant bar, and there will also be a rooftop bar – a rarity in this corner of Soho.
100 Princes Street, Edinburgh
100 Princes Street is one of the hotels that has been due to open for some years. A handsome townhouse originally built for Scottish politician Sir John Clark of Penicuik was turned into a hotel in the 19th century. It has been redesigned by Red Carnation Hotels, with interiors inspired by designer Alexander McQueen.
Treehouse Hotel Manchester
There is an influx of Manchester hotels arriving soon, including a northern outpost of Soho House. Treehouse Hotel, however, is the one we’re most excited about. It will feature many of the same influences as its sister location in London, including abundant greenery and a buzzing rooftop restaurant.
Hotels Opened in Summer 2023
No. 42 by GuestHouse, Margate
Margate’s only truly seafront hotel, this Victorian spot has been given island vibes by the GuestHouse group, which quickly opened a cluster of boutique hotels. Twenty-one rooms reflect the seaside location – think shell lamps and curvy furniture. There’s a restaurant, Pearly Cow, a beachfront café, and a little spa, all in one of England’s most thriving seaside towns.
Estelle Manor Oxfordshire
This private-members country club is a unique take on a classic; overseen by the Ennismore Group, which owns city-focused hotels. There are 108 rooms and suites across the estate, including in the manor and its outbuildings. Amenities include sitting rooms, a co-working space, a spa, a sun-soaked terrace, and a pool to enhance your stay; plus a variety of restaurants. The Manor is set in a sprawling 60-acre estate – this is a true rural escape.
1 Hotel Mayfair, London
A nine-storey sustainable hotel might not be what you expect in Mayfair, but this new arrival – covered in greenery inside and out – has integrated seamlessly. It’s the first London property from the 1 Hotel Group, known for eco-focused environments. A tranquil aesthetic extends from the lobby to the 181 bedrooms, with beachy tones and milky hues. A restaurant from esteemed chef Tom Sellers offers additional appeal, creating a buzzing atmosphere for guests and locals alike.
