Free Flights to Hong Kong: Discover the City with iBestTravel
Has Hong Kong always been on your bucket list? Now might be the perfect time to finally make plans to visit, as the Hong Kong Department of Tourism is set to give away over half a million free flight tickets to draw more tourists.
The announcements were made as the chief executive of Hong Kong, John Lee Ka-Chiu, attended the launch ceremony of the Hello Hong Kong campaign at the convention and exhibition centre in Wan Chai.
Most tickets will be distributed through Hong Kong-based carrier Cathay Pacific for travelers in Asia, including Chinese tourists, who are finally traveling again following the easing of border controls. However, there is also an allocation for European and American travelers. Additionally, a small proportion of the flights will be available to Hong Kong residents for travel to other Asian countries.
How to Acquire Free Flights
Following the news, Cathay Pacific launched the initial phase of its World of Winners campaign online.
Round-trip tickets were distributed in phases starting from Wednesday, beginning with Southeast Asian trips. Citizens of the Chinese mainland had their chance earlier in April before the campaign opened up for others. Now, it’s finally time for travelers from the UK to take advantage of this opportunity in May.
Beginning at 9 AM on Tuesday, May 9, Cathay Pacific will offer more than 3,000 economy round-trip airfares from the UK to Hong Kong. Between then and Monday, May 15, tickets will be awarded to those who submit the correct answers through the campaign page.
To take part, participants must be a Cathay member before the launch date. Note that only one entry per person is allowed, and successful entrants will receive an email with details on how to redeem their prize once the campaign concludes.
After winning, tickets must be redeemed between Monday, June 5, and Tuesday, July 4, to avoid forfeiting them. Valid for nine months from the issue date, flights will be available from London Heathrow or Manchester Airport, excluding taxes and surcharges.
What to Expect in Hong Kong
Kenneth Wong, regional director of Europe for the Hong Kong Tourism Board, stated, “The Hong Kong Tourism Board announced the ‘Hello Hong Kong’ campaign earlier this year, showcasing the city’s warm welcome to the world. Hong Kong is delighted to host visitors from Europe and offers a vibrant and diverse experience, from world-class museums and historic architecture to incredible dining and nightlife. Beyond its iconic skyline, visitors will also find refreshing hiking experiences.”
In addition to free airfare for inquisitive travelers, the Hong Kong tourism board will distribute spending vouchers to explore the city. These vouchers can be utilized for drinks, dining, transportation, and any travel activities that excite visitors about exploring a new destination or returning to a cherished one.
