Although the 4Runner Trailhunter does not come standard with a camper box or rooftop tent, it is otherwise well-equipped for those aiming to explore off-road terrains.
Suspension Lift, With Help from Old Man Emu
Similar to the TRD Pro model, the Trailhunter boasts a taller suspension, providing a lift of 2.0 inches in the front and 1.5 inches in the rear. This setup includes 2.5-inch forged Old Man Emu shocks with external piggyback reservoirs, alongside specially crafted front upper control arms bearing the “Trailhunter” branding and a compass insignia.
Meaty Meats
The 4Runner Trailhunter is fitted with 33-inch Toyo Open Country all-terrain tires, complemented by striking bronze-colored TRD wheels borrowed from the Tacoma Trailhunter.
Standard Locking Rear Differential
In contrast to the base models that rely on an automatic limited-slip rear differential, the Trailhunter offers a more robust electronic locking rear differential, tailored for challenging low-traction conditions.

That Snorkel Isn’t Really a Snorkel
Exclusive to the Trailhunter, this distinct intake system snakes up the passenger-side A-pillar, designed to provide clean, dust-free air to the engine. This feature resembles a snorkel but lacks a seal for deep-water wading. Rather, it helps in sourcing cleaner air during desert excursions.
Standard Hybrid Power
The Trailhunter comes equipped with Toyota’s i-Force MAX hybrid four-cylinder engine, generating a potent 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. This is a considerable upgrade over the non-hybrid variant’s 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. The powertrain incorporates a 48-hp electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission, complemented by a nickel-metal hydride battery.

Every hybrid version of the 4Runner, including the Trailhunter, is equipped with a 120-volt, 2,400-watt AC power inverter, featuring two outlets for convenient power supply on-the-go.
