Volvo P1800 Cyan GT: A Custom Classic Reimagined
It’s hard to argue the appeal of a good restomod build. They can be the perfect combination of classic style and modern performance, amalgamated into a unique driving experience that can’t easily be replicated in any other vehicle. The Volvo P1800 Cyan GT stands as a prime example of this concept. Not unlike Singer, Cyan’s P1800s are made to order, and it can take anywhere from 12 to 15 months to complete a build. Recently, the company revealed details about a customer’s Volvo P1800 Cyan GT build, showcasing many exciting features.
The Build Process
The process began with a donor car, which was stripped down to its bare chassis. Cyan’s engineers reinforced it with “high strength” steel, preparing it for an updated independent suspension. After receiving an anti-corrosion coating, the chassis was fitted with a new carbon fiber body. This body was then painted with a deep red hue, complemented by a sand-colored upholstery interior.
Performance Features
Under the hood, you will find a custom-built 350 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged engine mated to a five-speed Holinger transmission. Moreover, all the old factory wiring has been completely replaced with a modern loom, featuring a bespoke CAN-bus based PDM controlled system engineered by Cyan.
Unique Parts and Customization
Only a few parts of the original P1800 remain upon completion of the build, including the taillights, hood latch, handbrake switch, and chassis floor. Notably, all the interior switchgear appears original but consists of replicas produced by Cyan. This particular customer opted for additional sound deadening material, likely aimed at enhancing comfort during longer drives.
Pricing and Availability
Cyan did not disclose the identity of the customer or the cost of this specific commission. However, a previously tested P1800 was priced at approximately $700,000. While this might deter some, it’s worth noting the satisfaction derived from knowing such extraordinary cars still exist, showcasing the blend of heritage and innovation in the automotive world.
