Incident Involving Toyota FJ Cruiser at Kuwaiti Beach

Kuwait’s attempt at sending a man into orbit last week was a solo operation, as one unbelted driver managed to flip their SUV on a public beach, sending themselves flying out of the window and into the ocean as seen in one dramatic video circulating online. Further reports indicate the crashed Toyota FJ Cruiser was later dragged out by police after being swallowed by the sea, and likely was completely totaled.

Details of the Incident

The video shows the FJ Cruiser coming toward the camera down the beach, before swerving a few times in a tank-slapper fashion, losing control and rolling onto its roof and over a few times, ejecting the driver out of the side window. It’s unclear if the person filming was instructed to record the shenanigans unfolding, or if they’re just a bystander who pointed a camera at some hooligans at the right time. Given the general lack of alarm while recording and the audible laughter after the SUV crashed, maybe they’re an unrelated party.

Aftermath and Safety Concerns

The driver was able to get up and walk away initially, though it was confirmed on Instagram that they did sustain unspecified injuries, and they are seen limping back to shore somewhat gingerly. Security personnel were alerted to the incident and reportedly arrived later to remove the vehicle.

It’s unclear what sort of security the Abu Hasaniya Public Beach in Kuwait has, or how often people are driving on its beaches, but Google Maps indicates there is a mall, mosque, and a few hotels in the pavilion across from where the crash took place. People should be more careful, even if it’s just to save the limited population of Toyota FJ Cruisers in existence.
