In the world of BMW, a Competition Sport—or “CS”—version signifies an ultra-performance model that combines daily-driver civility with racetrack-worthy capabilities. Expect maximum weight savings, enhanced suspension tuning, and abundant carbon fiber, making it a car that can still be practical for daily use, depending on your tolerance for potential noise and ride comfort. For 2025, the BMW M4 CS returns and is debuting at Laguna Seca for those seeking an elite M4 driving experience.

The M4 CS Strategic Positioning

The CS model positions itself between the M4 Competition Coupe and the CSL. While the CSL represents a more extreme version, the CS symbolizes the most athletic M4 coupe available, ideal for track enthusiasts. Central to the CS is the upgraded 3.0-liter twin-turbo S58 I-6 engine, running at higher 30.5-psi boost pressures to deliver 543 hp. The torque peak of 479 lb-ft is reached at just 2,750 rpm and remains available up to 5,950 rpm. Maximum horsepower is obtained at 6,250 rpm, while the engine is capable of revving up to 7,200 rpm.

Improved Engine Components

To accommodate increased pressures in the combustion chamber, the CS features a sleeveless, closed-deck crankcase that enhances block rigidity, allowing the lightweight forged crankshaft to operate more efficiently. The cylinder head utilizes a 3D-printed core for improved thermal management through optimal cooling channels. Moreover, the oil system is tailored for high-G conditions and extended periods of high rpm for track use.

Unique Transmission and AWD System

This distinctive engine mounts more rigid components compared to standard M4 parts, translating more torque into the drivetrain. The eight-speed M Steptronic transmission is integrated with BMW’s xDrive system. Consequently, the 2025 M4 CS is claimed to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 3.2 seconds, with a top speed of 188 mph, courtesy of its standard M Driver’s Package.

Shifts can be manually controlled using carbon fiber paddles behind the steering wheel or via the shift lever on the center console. Drivers can also customize their shifting preferences with the Drivelogic button, providing a range from comfort-oriented to aggressive settings for a sportier feel.

While the M4 CS utilizes an AWD system, the M xDrive will direct torque primarily to the rear axle through a multi-plate clutch in the transfer case. This arrangement ensures the AWD system operates effectively under demanding driving conditions. Additionally, the Active M Differential offers full variability, and a rear-wheel-drive mode can be activated by disengaging the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC).

Advanced Suspension Technology

To complement its power and AWD capabilities, the suspension system is specifically designed for maximum traction. The Adaptive M suspension and M Servotronic variable ratio steering system are tailored exclusively for the 2025 M4 CS. These components work in unison to provide an exceptional driving experience, ensuring the vehicle maintains speed and control even under challenging conditions.

The braking system is equipped with M Compound brakes featuring either red or black calipers. For those who opt for carbon ceramic brakes, a striking gold finish is available. These brakes are paired with M4 CS-exclusive 19-inch front and 20-inch rear forged aluminum wheels, which can be customized with high-performance tires ideal for track conditions.

A Carbon-Fiber Diet

One of the main objectives of the CS model is to minimize weight as much as possible. The 2025 M4 CS features significant use of carbon fiber, including a carbon fiber roof, hood, and various body components. This careful engineering results in a lighter car, contributing to its performance metrics.

Exterior finishes for the 2025 M4 CS are offered in two BMW Individual options: Riviera Blue or Frozen Isle of Man Green metallic, with other color options also available. Remarkably, the roof and two stripes on the hood will feature exposed carbon fiber, enhancing the vehicle’s striking appearance.

Luxurious Interior Design

The interior of the M4 CS showcases a generous use of carbon fiber, found in shift paddles and front seat frames. The seats are elegantly upholstered in Merino leather, presented in a dynamic black and red scheme. This thoughtful design results in a vehicle that is 77 pounds lighter than the M4 Competition Coupe M xDrive.

The BMW iDrive system in the 2025 M4 CS is equipped with a curved display using BMW OS 8.5. Unique features include M Shift Lights and M-specific graphics, enhancing usability for performance driving enthusiasts.

The 2025 BMW M4 CS will be produced at the Dingolfing, Germany facility starting in July. Orders are anticipated to open at the end of May, with a base price set at $124,675. Enthusiasts will have the opportunity to view the new 2025 M4 CS at the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Laguna Seca on May 10, and later at the Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps World Endurance Car race in Belgium on the same day.
