2025 Ram 1500 Rebel X: A Decade of Off-Road Excellence
When the Ram 1500 Rebel was introduced for 2015, it spawned a whole new mid-grade off-road segment in light-duty trucks. Before that, we had the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram 2500 Power Wagon, both of which catered to extremes of the off-road spectrum. The Rebel provided a more balanced alternative, sporting rugged features and flair that surpassed lightweight off-road variants like Ford’s FX4, Chevrolet’s Z71, Toyota’s TRD Pro, and Nissan’s Pro-4X. The name alone carries a certain edge.
Introducing the 2025 Rebel X
After a decade of evolution, the Rebel now welcomes a special-edition X package for the 2025 model year. This update also includes an extensive refresh of the entire Ram 1500 lineup featuring new engines. Notably, the V-8 has been discontinued, along with the TRX, albeit in a different format.
New Features and Specifications
Over the years, the Rebel has maintained its core essence while improving alongside the Ram 1500. The 2025 model retains a one-inch-taller ride height and offers either steel or air springs along with an electronic locking rear differential. Key features such as tow hooks, a transfer case, fuel tank skid plates, off-road Bilstein dampers, and 33-inch tires remain standard.
This year, the Rebel benefits from Stellantis’ new Hurricane twin-turbo inline-six engine, specifically the standard-output Hurricane SST, producing 420 horsepower and 469 lb-ft of torque. It pairs with an eight-speed transmission. Available as a crew cab with a five-foot-seven-inch box, the truck also includes Ram Boxes for added storage.
Upgraded Technology and Comfort
The Rebel X package encompasses all features from the Rebel Level 2 package, enhancing the center touchscreen to 14.5 inches and integrating a 10.25-inch passenger display. Additional features include:
- Remote start
- Rain sensing wipers
- Dual wireless charging pads
- 19-speaker premium Harmon Kardon sound system
- Power folding mirrors
- Power folding tailgate
This ensures that the Rebel serves well for everyday uses while offering sufficient off-road capabilities for enthusiasts.
Design and Customization Options
For those leaning towards exclusivity, buyers can select the Rebel X’s exclusive Mojave Sand exterior color. Inside, the vehicle features leather bucket seats accented with an “X” logo and red stitching, complemented by a black and red badge on the center console highlighting the decade of Rebel heritage. A panoramic sunroof ensures ample natural light within the cabin.
Advanced Off-Roading Features
While some might view the Rebel X as merely an appearance upgrade, it significantly enhances equipment and puts forth a visual allure over the standard Rebel. Furthermore, Ram introduces a noteworthy new feature: Rough Road Cruise Control. This innovative system allows drivers to maintain cruising speeds on rugged, uneven terrain, much like hill descent control does on steep declines. The system reads the terrain ahead and optimizes the suspension and steering accordingly.
Price and Availability
The Ram 1500 Rebel is currently available to order, with the Rebel X package offered for new builds. The starting price for the Rebel is $66,190, while the Rebel X can be added at an anticipated cost of $3,500.
