Introducing the 2025 Ram 1200
For quite some time, Ram has been contemplating a smaller pickup to complement its full-size 1500 model. While enthusiasts anticipate the revival of the midsize Dakota or a compact contender to rival the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz, the 2025 Ram 1200 is set to launch in Mexico. This new pickup fits snugly in the lineup between the Ram 700 and Ram 1500.
Specifications and Design
According to local sources, the Ram 1200 is based on the Peugeot Landtrek, a global truck variant. This model will be manufactured in China; however, Ram Mexico has requested adaptations to meet the Latin American market’s specific demands.

Trim Options and Features
The leaked details indicate that the Ram 1200 will feature different cab styles depending on the trim. The Tradesman trim will come in regular and crew cab configurations, while the Bighorn and Laramie models will exclusively have four-door crew cabs. Each variant will utilize a 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbo engine generating 210 horsepower and 226 lb-ft of torque. Only the Laramie trim will be available with 4×4, while the others will stick with 2WD.
Performance Specifications
- Payload Capacity: Approximately 2,650 pounds, surpassing the Ford Maverick’s 1,544 pounds.
- Towing Capacity: Up to 6,613 pounds, significantly more than the Maverick’s 4,000 with a towing package.
Ram Mexico has confirmed these figures, stating that the Ram 1200 will replace the Landtrek to prevent internal competition.
Commercial and Lifestyle Versatility
Much like the Maverick, the Ram 1200 accommodates both commercial and personal use. The Tradesman version features a utilitarian design with no chrome, steel wheels, and a black plastic front fascia. In contrast, the Bighorn and Laramie trims present a more refined appearance with painted fascias and aluminum wheels.
Future Outlook and Market Trends
While it remains uncertain if the Ram 1200 will preview a similar vehicle for the U.S. market, the likelihood of it being introduced stateside is low due to its Chinese manufacturing. It’s notable that the Ram 1200 and the Ram Rampage, which debuted in South America, are distinct models with different designs and powertrains.
In the U.S., rumors suggest that the Ram Dakota may return as a unibody truck in late 2025. This new model will compete with the Maverick, Santa Cruz, and potentially the Honda Ridgeline. Consequently, while enthusiasts await the Dakota’s arrival, markets in Mexico and beyond will welcome the new Ram 1200.
