New Look, Same Great Performance
The current vibe of the new car market makes us wince anytime we hear “V-8” in the news. However, you can rest assured that the 360-hp CT5-V and the 668-hp CT5-V Blackwing are back—and even better—for the 2025 model year. This midcycle refresh to the CT5 V-Series represents a significant investment in gas-fueled performance, bringing new aesthetics and technological advancements while retaining their hallmark engines.
Aggressive Exterior Design
A fresh face might not seem like the most thrilling upgrade for a performance vehicle, but both iterations of the CT5-V now sport cleaner and more aggressive visual cues up front. Like the less powerful 2025 CT5, the V-Series models receive sleeker one-piece vertical LED running lights combined with stacked LED projector lights. This enhancement results in a tighter, squarer, and more upscale appearance for these luxurious sport sedans. Three new colors are available for the V-Series CT5 this year: Drift Metallic (exclusive to Blackwing), Typhoon Metallic, and Deep Space Metallic.
The CT5-V Blackwing features less painted surface area than the V model, showcasing a larger lower grille and enhanced air inlets. Importantly, despite these modifications, the car’s performance remains robust, meeting or even surpassing its targets for cooling airflow and aerodynamic balance.
Performance that Excites
The Blackwing’s impressive 668 horsepower and 659 lb-ft of torque facilitate speeds exceeding 200 mph. The standard six-speed manual transmission is retained, with an optional 10-speed automatic also available. As a notable new feature for 2025, every CT5 model now comes with GM’s Super Cruise hands-free highway driving system when equipped with the automatic transmission. The CT5-V maintains the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6, producing 360 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic that drives either the rear or all wheels.
Advanced Interior Technology
The impressive 33-inch curved 9K LED display inside provides more than just a larger viewing area. Powered by an Android Automotive operating system, it includes built-in features such as Google Maps and voice commands, maintaining core functionalities alongside a refreshed performance app for driving enthusiasts. Two display options allow for the monitoring of performance data: customizable circular gauges or a real-time strip chart. This updated interface ensures drivers can quickly access and analyze their performance metrics.
Performance Data Recorder
The upgraded optional Performance Data Recorder (PDR) now captures 34 data points, enabling detailed insights into driving performance, such as brake and throttle adjustments on a GPS map. Furthermore, in-car analysis capabilities mean drivers can review their performance without exiting the vehicle, maximizing time on the track.
Availability and Pricing
Production for the 2025 model is set to commence this summer, though updated pricing has yet to be revealed. Availability will be limited, particularly for the Blackwing, which will only be offered at select dealerships. The CT5-V is an excellent choice for a daily driver, with an anticipated starting price of around $54,000. Meanwhile, the Blackwing is expected to start near $90,000, potentially exceeding $110,000 with additional features like carbon seats and brakes.
