Affordable Electric Jeep Renegade: Features of New Gas, Hybrid, and EV Models

Upcoming Jeep Models and Renegade EV Details

It’s time again for the annual Stellantis shareholder presentation, which often brings exciting news about future products for its global brands, including Jeep. However, this year, the automaker recognizes that it faces serious challenges in the slow shift to electric vehicles, new regulatory hurdles, manufacturing location headaches, materials sourcing, and the rising power of China’s automotive manufacturing sector on the global stage. Consequently, Stellantis has many issues to address, leading to limited disclosures regarding the future of Chrysler. Nevertheless, some news emerged from today’s presentation regarding upcoming Jeep SUVs and pickup trucks, promising exciting prospects worth waiting for.

The $25,000 Jeep Renegade EV Is Coming Soon

One of the most significant announcements from the shareholder presentation was the confirmation of the highly anticipated $25,000 Jeep EV. It has been validated that this vehicle will be an updated version of the Jeep Renegade compact SUV, expected to go on sale by the end of 2027 with at least one BEV trim option. In fact, the corporate materials indicated that the new Renegade EV might even start “under $25,000,” making it quite appealing. However, it remains unclear whether this price point reflects the MSRP or if it accounts for any applicable government incentives.

2027 Jeep Renegade EV Specs and Presumptions

Details regarding what this Renegade EV will offer remain sparse. However, it is anticipated to be significantly similar to the brand’s existing Jeep Avenger and Alfa Romeo Junior electric SUVs currently available in Europe. The current Renegade is sized between the European Avenger and the American Compass SUVs, but it could potentially adapt the existing 54 kWh battery pack (possibly larger), offering around 250 miles of estimated range. Furthermore, the powertrain may include either a single front-mounted electric motor providing roughly 155 hp or a dual motor setup for all-wheel-drive capabilities with increased power.

More New Jeeps Coming by 2027

Beyond the new Renegade with an EV variant, the presentation also outlined additional product plans for the Jeep brand. The off-road automaker is set to introduce two new mild hybrid models, which will not require plugging in. This includes the same eTorque mild-hybrid technology available in some past Jeeps and current Rams. Additionally, one new 4xe plug-in hybrid model, one new range-extender hybrid, and six all-electric vehicles are expected to be introduced by 2027.

Range-Extending EV (REEV) Jeep Details

We can glean some insights regarding the new PHEV, likely the previously-announced Gladiator 4xe trim. Three of the six EVs have already been announced, including the Wagoneer S, Recon SUVs expected for 2024, and the electric Renegade trim anticipated for either late 2027 or 2028. It’s intriguing to speculate that the teased “range-extender electric vehicle” or “REEV” may borrow the powertrain technology that Ram integrates into its 1500 Ramcharger pickup. This model uses an EV sled chassis alongside a 27-gallon fuel tank, powering a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 that acts as a 130-kW generator, charging platform batteries that energize electric motors on the axles. It seems likely that this setup is on the horizon for Wrangler’s current Ram-based offerings, specifically the Wagoneer family.

What Could the New Jeep Nameplates Be?

Moreover, the Jeep slides revealed plans for an obvious Wrangler refresh, which also implies a Gladiator refresh, confirmed in the slides. Furthermore, there’s a brand-new Compass SUV in the works, along with an intriguing new “mainstream utility vehicle” aimed at the mid-size sector, likely an SUV. The outlook indicates upcoming refreshes for the Grand Cherokee + Grand Cherokee L, along with anticipated refreshes for the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs.

It’s understood that the Recon and Wagoneer S are two of the three newly announced Jeep nameplates. This suggests that the mid-size utility vehicle is likely to be a new Cherokee, although it doesn’t represent an entirely new nameplate. Speculation around the third new nameplate remains, however, Jeep might plausible refer to a range-extender Wagoneer model as a new nameplate, should it adopt a different identity from the electric Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models the same way Ram’s 1500 Ramcharger does.

No Material Dodge, Ram or Chrysler News … Yet

Despite detailed plans for Jeep, iBestTravel did not provide much additional information regarding its extensive range of brands in North America, which includes Ram, Chrysler, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, and Dodge alongside Jeep. The reiteration of Chrysler CEO Chris Feuell’s dual role as the new boss of Ram was noted, although no concrete announcements or teasers for specific future models for either of these brands were disclosed, nor was there any mention of Fiat, Alfa, Maserati, or Dodge. For now, the excitement centers on Jeep, so enjoy the anticipation.
