The upcoming Chevy Equinox EV is unrelated to the standard model, retaining only its name and size within the compact SUV segment. Currently, the starting price for the Equinox EV is projected at approximately $34,995 for the base 1LT trim. This model is expected to achieve an estimated range of up to 319 miles, depending on the configuration. The 1LT trim is noteworthy for its features, including a potential for a white-painted roof, 19-inch wheels, an 11.5 kW Level 2 onboard charger capable of adding around 30 miles of range in an hour, an 11-inch touchscreen, and a standard suite of safety features.

Furthermore, the Equinox EV 2RS trim starts at about $48,995 for the front-wheel drive model, while the rear-wheel drive variant begins at $52,395. This model has an estimated range of 280-300 miles. Up to 21-inch wheels, wiring for towing up to 1,500 pounds, and a 17.7-inch touchscreen with built-in Google apps are among the enhancements available for the 2RS trim.

2025 Chevrolet Equinox: The Enhanced SUV

The Chevrolet Equinox has established its reputation in the compact SUV market, achieving impressive sales numbers, totaling 3 million units sold. This makes it the brand’s best-selling vehicle, trailing only behind the full-sized Silverado pickup. However, it lacks hybrid options, a feature offered by competitors like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.

Chevrolet is channeling its efforts into the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV to meet the increasing demand for electric vehicles, which will launch mid-year with a brand-new architecture, striking a different aesthetic, and utilizing distinct components. The conventional gasoline-powered Equinox is receiving significant upgrades to remain competitive in the market.

With the introduction of the new 2025 Chevrolet Equinox, it will benefit from an array of enhancements while maintaining its foundational attributes. It showcases a more robust appearance, modernized features, and upgraded performance, retaining the reliable 175-hp 1.5-liter turbocharged I-4 engine from its predecessor.

Transmission Updates Enhance Performance

Chevrolet has replaced the outdated six-speed automatic transmission with more efficient options to enhance driving dynamics and improve power delivery. Front-wheel-drive models now feature a continuously variable transmission, while all-wheel-drive variants will utilize an eight-speed automatic, aiming to boost responsiveness and fuel economy.

Significant improvements also include all-wheel-drive systems designed for snow and off-road capabilities, while the towing capacity is set at 800 pounds for front-wheel-drive models and 1,500 pounds for the all-wheel-drive variants. Notably, General Motors’ Super Cruise feature will not be offered in the 2025 Equinox, keeping costs in check.

Exterior Design: A Bold New Look

The 2025 Equinox is noticeably wider and slightly lifted, echoing design aesthetics similar to the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse and the Chevrolet Colorado, which enhances its rugged appeal. The updated roofline creates a more aggressive and boxy silhouette compared to the previous generation.

The rugged design includes squared wheel wells and a striking brow line that enhances its bold presence on the road, making it a departure from the softer lines of its predecessor.

Updated Trim Levels: Focused on Versatility

The Equinox sees a reduction in trim levels from four to three: RS, LT, and a newly introduced Activ trim that targets outdoor enthusiasts. The Activ trim includes aesthetic enhancements such as a white two-tone roof and specialized features aimed at those who desire a more rugged look.

The RS trim boasts standard 19-inch wheels, with 20-inch options introduced for the first time. The entire lineup is designed to cater to diverse consumer preferences while ensuring an array of standard safety features.

Interior Space and Technology: Modern Upgrades

Inside, the redesigned Equinox showcases an 11-inch driver display and an 11.3-inch center touchscreen. These improvements emphasize the importance of technology in consumer decision-making, providing a competitive edge against rival offerings.

Furthermore, the interior includes physical buttons for ease of climate and volume control, ensuring that comfort does not come at the expense of functionality. The gear selector has been relocated to a stalk on the steering column, facilitating a more organized layout.

Satisfying Passenger Comfort

Cloth seats are standard in the LT trim, while higher trims upgrade to synthetic leather or suede options, which enhance the experience. Heated front seats are standard across all models, with ventilated options available for added comfort.

Additionally, the second-row seating can fold nearly flat, facilitating a generous 63.5 cubic feet of cargo space, along with a hidden storage area above the spare tire. The liftgate can automatically open with the key fob, showcasing Chevrolet’s commitment to user-friendly design.

The 2025 Equinox will be manufactured in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and is set to launch mid-year. Although prices are not yet confirmed, they are expected to remain competitive within the compact SUV market. The Chevy team believes this iteration epitomizes the potential of the Equinox and will help maintain its position as a leader in the lineup as more electric vehicles are introduced.
