Earlier in April, Aston Martin announced a new path forward, strategically pushing back plans for all-electric models with renewed development of plug-in hybrid gas models for the foreseeable future. Now, the brand has announced a newly refreshed V-12 powerplant for exclusive models going forward. Here’s where we can expect the new V-12 to roll out.
Aston’s newly redeveloped V-12 is good for 824 horsepower (835 PS) and 737 lb-ft of torque (1,000 Nm) in its twin-turbo configuration. The British automaker, with a 25-year legacy of V-12 engines, has strengthened the cylinder block and connecting rods, updated the cylinder heads with re-profiled camshafts, along with revised intake and exhaust ports. Furthermore, the spark plugs have moved to a new optimized position, with new fuel injectors featuring a higher flow rate, and reduced-inertia turbochargers that spin at a higher speed. Consequently, the automaker says its new V-12 engine will be handcrafted in strictly limited numbers for only the “most exclusive and limited-availability models.”
The brand seems to have ruled out a return of the V-12 Vantage with its latest release of the updated, up-marketed V-8 model with improved performance; however, there is always room for surprises. This latest V-12 press release goes out of its way to mention “Vanquish” a few times, indicating that an all-new flagship V-12 grand tourer of the same name, originally introduced in 2001, may be making a comeback. Therefore, what else beyond that Vanquish could be getting this exciting V-12 powerplant? Speculation suggests a new DBS could also embrace the V-12, in addition to the DBX SUV potentially accommodating a V-12 under the hood. Thus, it is wise to stay tuned for updates on these developments.
