Introducing the 2025 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Precision Package

Cadillac believes that a significant number of its Blackwing owners actively participate in track days, surpassing the engagement seen in BMW M and Mercedes-AMG owners. When Alex MacDonald transitioned from his role as vehicle performance manager overseeing Corvette and Camaro to chief engineer of the CT4 and CT5, his team expressed the desire to bring a track-optimized chassis package into production. Originally showcased with the CT4, this ambitious concept is set to debut with the 2025 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing as the Precision Package, RPO V8V, in early 2025.

The Goal of RPO V8V

The CT5-V Blackwing is already exceptionally capable on the road, offering the flexibility of luxurious comfort or sharp performance through a simple drive-mode switch. However, when equipped for track duty with ultra-high-performance tires, it quickly approached the limits of its road-oriented setup. Consequently, the Precision Package aims to enhance capability in a track-focused manner, enhancing path precision and increasing cornering speeds. As executive chief engineer Brandon Vivian states, “We designed this vehicle to set records on some of the most demanding tracks in the world and to satisfy the most discerning driving enthusiast.” Notably, the powertrain remains unchanged.

Holistically Stiffened

Cadillac addresses various dynamics to achieve a proper balance. Spring rates increase by 70% in the front and 50% in the rear. Although this appears significant, the perceived ride rate—what occupants actually experience—increases only by 20% for both ends. Moreover, the tuning of the magnetorheological dampers is substantially revised to mitigate the bounce often felt in stiffer settings like the Ford Focus RS. The upper mounts for the front and rear dampers are notably stiffened, aiding in eliminating uncontrolled movement. Additionally, the ride link bushings are reinforced, with a remarkable 79% increase in the front and 63% in the rear, while the front anti-roll bar sees an 11% raise. Finally, the front rear cradle bushings are made 1,000% stiffer. When asked why not solid mounts, MacDonald replied, “We did that, and it didn’t suit Cadillac. It was an uncomfortable experience—the vibrations were too pronounced.”

More Adjustability

Enhanced adjustability is another key change, allowing for track-specific camber adjustments. The front knuckles enable direct adjustment, and the rear features newly milled toe-control links that provide an extra degree of negative camber. These components are included with the vehicle, ready for installation on track days.

All-New Calibrations

The software governing the MR dampers, stability control system, and electric power steering assist has been meticulously updated to align with the Precision Package’s new hardware. Even the electronic limited-slip differential calibration ensures a more predictable experience under acceleration.

Counters to intuition, the bandwidth of the MR damping is slightly narrowed, enhancing responsiveness to better align with the updated spring and ride rates. It has been noted that Mike Hurley, a pivotal figure in the Corvette team’s chassis development, has effectively maintained a commendable level of isolation despite the increased spring stiffness.

No Tire/Wheel Changes. Yet.

Upon launch, the Precision Package will be equipped with the same 19-inch Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer performance tires, keeping the 275/40R19 front and 305/30ZR19 rear specifications as provided with other CT5-V models. There may be potential for future options like Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires, which customers will likely employ for track events—perhaps additionally sizing the fronts to a more standard 285/30R19 size. When upgraded, drivers can expect the 2025 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Precision Package to handle with the agility of a smaller, more focused car—akin to a CT4-V Blackwing, yet with robust CT5-V-8 performance. This synergy leads to improved traction, confident cornering, and reduced lap times, with praise for Hurley’s ability to retain on-road comfort within the Precision Package.

When and How Much?

The Cadillac RPO V8V Precision Package will be available starting early 2025 for all CT5-V Blackwing models, with the only required option being the $9,000 carbon-ceramic brakes. Although pricing is yet to be finalized, it is expected to align closely with similar chassis packages, possibly around $6,345 akin to the Corvette’s Z51 package. Therefore, preparing for a budget exceeding $111,000 out the door—including guzzler taxes—will be prudent for interested buyers.
