2025 Shelby Ford F-150 Baja Raptor Review: 900 HP Powerhouse Ready for Adventure

2024 Shelby Ford F-150 Baja Raptor: Performance Meets Style

Earlier this year, we caught a glimpse of the 830-hp Shelby American Super Snake based on the S650 Mustang platform. The specialty builder brought its unique style and bold performance to the latest Pony car. However, the Shelby engineers did not rest on their laurels; they switched platforms and developed two new trucks, focusing on both form and function. The 2024 Shelby Ford F-150 Baja Raptor is available from Shelby dealers in limited quantities, with both levels based on the F-150 Raptor.

Model Options and Performance

The first option offers a twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 that delivers 550 hp, while the other variant is equipped with a Whipple-supercharged V-8 capable of producing 900 hp using pump gas. The EcoBoost package starts at $61,995, whereas the Raptor R version is priced at $64,995, following the vehicle’s initial cost.

Suspension and Features

These trucks feature robust suspension upgrades from BDS, enhancing their off-road capabilities, paired with the FOX Live Valve shock system. Enhanced bumpers improve both aesthetics and functionality, while LED lighting upgrades illuminate the vehicle’s exterior, preparing it for desert trails. Moreover, Shelby made interior modifications to elevate luxury for occupants traversing rugged terrain. The Shelby hood integrates functional vents to maintain engine bay temperature and enhance the aggressive appearance of the vehicle. For performance-oriented design, the trucks come with 18-inch wheels mounted on 37-inch off-road tires, alongside two spare tires securely placed in the truck bed, ensuring readiness for adventure.

Engine Specifications

The EcoBoost V-6 produces 550 hp with the aid of an upgraded intercooler and performance intake system, among other enhancements. Meanwhile, the 900-hp V-8 variant is derived from the Raptor R and implemented with a Whipple 3.8-liter supercharger, Shelby-spec Borla exhaust, and refined ECU calibration. Notably, both engine trims utilize 93-octane pump gas for optimum performance. Each truck is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty, with Shelby advising potential buyers to confirm local compatibility with certain models.

Heritage and Future

According to Gary Patterson, president of Shelby American: “We launched our first Shelby edition Ford Raptor not long after our founder, Carroll Shelby, passed away. As Carroll was personally involved in the direction of that V-8-powered muscle truck, it was a tribute to his vision of a high-performance off-road companion to the Shelby GT500 Mustang. The truck was a significant success, alongside the more recent V-6-powered Shelby edition Ford Raptor. For 2024, we celebrate Shelby’s longstanding off-road heritage by offering enthusiasts options with both V-6 and V-8 power.”

Upcoming Events

Come and experience the new Shelby Ford F-150 Baja Raptor at the Barrett-Jackson event in Scottsdale, Arizona, starting October 11, 2024.
