- Porsche is offering Carrera GT owners a free set of modern tires for their nearly 20-year-old sports cars.
- The automaker worked with Michelin on creating a model-specific version of the Pilot Sport Cup 2.
- According to Porsche, the new tires improve feel and significantly reduce the stopping distance of the Carrera GT.
Many owners face the common issue of their manual sports car gathering dust, causing the tires to age prematurely. If you’re fortunate enough to own such a remarkable car, you’re in luck! Porsche is now offering Carrera GT owners a complimentary set of modern tires for their cherished sports cars, which have been around for almost two decades.
The collaboration between Porsche and Michelin has resulted in a tailored version of the Pilot Sport Cup 2 performance tires specifically for the Carrera GT. This initiative marks their second collaboration, the first tire model roll-out having occurred in 2013.
As stated by Porsche, these new tires enhance driving dynamics and provide improved driver feedback for this aging supercar. Jörg Bergmeister, a Porsche development driver, noted that “The new tires do not just make the Carrera GT faster; they also make it easier for the driver to pilot the car in a spirited manner.” Moreover, these modern tires can reduce stopping distances by up to eight feet from 62 mph and up to 39 feet from 124 mph.
This new tire giveaway is also linked to Porsche’s recall of 489 Carrera GTs last April, which was prompted by concerns over potential suspension failures. A representative from Porsche confirmed that owners of affected vehicles would receive complimentary maintenance following any extended periods of inactivity, along with the new tires at no charge. Those not included in the recall are encouraged to contact their local Porsche Center for information on obtaining their set of new tires.
