That’s where Airbus’s new ‘Settee Corner’ seat comes in, offering sofa-style airplane seating.New concept: Airbus has taken an economy class configuration and transformed it into a lightweight and luxurious business class concept.Lightweight option: ‘The main driver of the project was to reduce the weight of a classical business class,’ Amalia Martinez Martin, business line leader for tailored equipment, tells CNN Travel. There are fewer mechanisms and the sofa space doubles up as lounge area and bed.Multi-faceted space: ‘We’ve got all features that you would find in a business class seat,’ says Martinez Martin. There’s the personalized TV screen, a spot to stow belongings — and, for those traveling with someone else, they can come and share the sofa.Safran Essential: Airbus isn’t the only company experimenting with different kinds of business class seating. French company Safran has also designed a seat that doesn’t use mechanisms. Instead, Safran Essential Business Class uses cushioning in innovative ways.
