Don Shula: The Legendary Coach of the Miami Dolphins

Don Shula, the longtime Miami Dolphins coach and architect of the only perfect season in NFL history, died at his South Florida home on Monday, May 4, according to the team. He was 90 years old.

Coaching Achievements

No NFL head coach has won more than Shula, who coached for 33 seasons and won an impressive 347 games. He coached the Baltimore Colts in the 1960s before leading the Dolphins from 1970 to 1995.

  • Shula won two Super Bowls with the Dolphins in the early ’70s.
  • The 1972 Dolphins remain the only team in NFL history to finish their season undefeated.
  • Shula was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1997.
