Trtl Pillow Plus Review
With the Trtl Pillow Plus, the brand’s clever neck wrap has had a helpful upgrade. Here’s what we thought when we tried it.
A travel pillow is essential for everyone when gearing up for a long-haul flight. However, the bean bag styles found throughout the airport are rarely effective. Fortunately, many brands are now offering superior alternatives—Trtl has significantly changed the game for frequent flyers.
Innovative Design
More a fleece scarf than a conventional pillow, Trtl travel pillows feature a curved U-shaped internal support that sits under your jaw, topped with a memory foam pad to rest your head. The fabric wraps around your neck and secures with Velcro, providing customizable support for individuals of all heights.
Testing the Trtl Pillow Plus
Faced with a 14-hour flight recently, I was eager to test the Trtl Pillow Plus. I tried both the original and adjustable versions at home before my flight. The newer version offered significantly improved comfort, as confirmed by my partner who is 6’2”.
Using the Trtl Pillow is a different experience compared to U-shaped neck pillows; it took some adjustment to feel comfortable. It’s advisable to adjust it before boarding to minimize any hassles, as flying can already be tedious.
Comfort During Extended Travel
Once adjusted, the new Trtl travel pillow was a valuable addition to my carry-on. It positioned me more comfortably than leaning against the window, reducing the likelihood of back and neck pain upon disembarking. This pillow significantly outperforms traditional headrests when trying to sleep in an upright position.
The primary benefit is that it prevents your head from falling forward, which is particularly helpful for overnight flights. After a redeye home, I arrived in London at 6 AM, having obtained more restful sleep than usual, which lessened the impact of jet lag.
Convenience and Portability
Weighing only 225 grams, it won’t impact your baggage allowance, and the carry bag includes a clip for easy attachment to your backpack. Cleaning is straightforward; simply remove the plastic insert and toss the fabric in the washing machine.
Considerations for Users
While the soft fleece material is cozy, some may find it too warm, particularly in hotter conditions. Offering a cooler fabric option might be beneficial for those who tend to overheat.
Of course, the enhanced functionality of this product comes at a higher price, retailing at £89.99 compared to the original’s £59.99. However, many find the original version sufficient. Personally, I found the support with the Plus noticeably superior, making it my go-to travel pillow.
Pros and Cons
- Pros: Machine washable, two-way adjustability, lightweight, enhances comfort for sleeping in an upright position.
- Cons: May be too warm for some users.
The Trtl Pillow Plus is a standout travel accessory designed for comfort and convenience during long flights. It is a must-have for frequent travelers seeking a better way to rest while on the go.
