2025 Honda Pilot’s Nets New SE Trim, Nine-Speed Auto, and a Price Hike

The current-generation Honda Pilot remains a standout option in the competitive three-row SUV market, showcasing frequent updates and enhancements that keep it relevant. Honda continuously invests in its lineup, and the Pilot received a notable refresh last year, along with other updates for 2021.

For 2021, the Pilot is equipped with a special edition trim and now comes standard with a nine-speed automatic transmission across all models. This transmission replaces the six-speed unit previously found in lower trim levels, enhancing driving efficiency and performance.

With the introduction of the nine-speed transmission, the entry-level 2021 Honda Pilot LX sees a price increase of $725, bringing it to $33,370. Although this price point is higher than the base Chevrolet Traverse (which is larger), it remains competitive against the similarly sized Toyota Highlander. Mid-level EX and EX-L trims experience a modest price rise of $525, while the Touring, Elite, and new Black Edition see slight increases of $325.

Despite the improvements, there have been some criticisms regarding the smoothness of the nine-speed automatic. Even after enhancements in the 2019 model, it has not fully achieved the level of refinement some drivers may expect.

2021 Honda Pilot Special Edition

The new Special Edition trim for 2021 blends luxurious features with a sporty aesthetic. It includes leather seats, second-row sunshades, a power driver’s seat with memory settings, a foot-activated hands-free tailgate, and a wireless phone charger. In addition, it features blacked-out 20-inch wheels, roof rails, grille, and skid plate accents. The starting price for the SE trim is $40,080.

Further enhancements to the 2021 Honda Pilot lineup include newly standard dual-zone automatic climate control on the LX trim. A fresh Platinum White Pearl paint option is now available for the Black Edition, which also maintains its striking black and red design accents along with perforated leather seating.

As we move through 2020 and into 2021, the adjustments made to the Honda Pilot will be crucial in maintaining its competitive edge against increasingly new or redesigned rivals. The versatility and practicality of the 2021 Honda Pilot continue to resonate with families seeking a spacious and reliable SUV.
