Explore Sky Lagoon: An Oceanfront Geothermal Retreat in Iceland
A new oceanfront geothermal lagoon has recently opened in Iceland, allowing guests to relax in waters that blend into the sea.
Experience the Healing Waters of Sky Lagoon
Inspired by Iceland’s long-standing spa culture, Sky Lagoon, located in Kársnes Harbour, Kópavogur, is designed to provide a restorative spa-like ritual that is rooted in Icelandic tradition. This manmade lagoon features an unobstructed 70m infinity edge, creating a stunning visual that blends seamlessly into the ocean landscape. The lagoon offers a unique seven-step spa experience called The Ritual, which combines warm and cold water, warm steam, dry heat, and fresh air.
Architectural Inspiration and Amenities
The design elements of Sky Lagoon are influenced by Icelandic culture, modeled after traditional turf houses, featuring deep insulation for winter and moss roofs. It is home to the Lagoon Bar, ideally positioned in a cave at the lagoon’s edge, the Sky Café, and the Smakk Bar, which serves dishes inspired by Iceland’s culinary heritage. Guests can enjoy stunning views of the Atlantic, colorful sunsets, northern lights, and the breathtaking night sky.
Visitor Information
Situated close to the capital Reykjavik, Sky Lagoon can accommodate up to 3000 visitors daily; however, children under 12 are not permitted, ensuring a serene environment for relaxation.
Travel Information for International Visitors
International travelers, including those from the US, can visit Iceland by demonstrating proof of COVID-19 vaccination. As of March, Iceland became the first country in the EU/Schengen area to allow entry to vaccinated passengers from all over the world. It is also on the green list for English travelers.
For up-to-date information on vaccinations, quarantine, and entry regulations, travelers should refer to the Government of Iceland’s official website here. For additional details about Sky Lagoon, visit here.
