Experience Michelin-Star Dining in Economy Class on British Airways

Gourmet Food Choices by Tom Kerridge for British Airways

Those who take their airplane food seriously may be interested to learn that Michelin-starred chef, Tom Kerridge, has designed gourmet food choices for British Airways’ new Speedbird Café menu.

The café is for passengers flying on the airline’s short-haul economy flights and aims to ensure that passengers receive their first choice of meal while reducing onboard waste. The dishes crafted by Tom Kerridge are created with a special focus on British provenance, featuring signature pies and sandwiches. Passengers can choose food, drink, and inflight retail items up to 12 hours before departure, making planning for onboard dining seamless.

Menu Highlights

  • Warm steak and ale pie
  • Ham hock and smoked cheddar sandwich
  • Vegan spiced cauliflower tortilla wrap
  • Chicken, bacon, and celery brioche
  • Vegetarian brie plowman’s sandwich

Furthermore, the airline continues to offer complimentary refreshments on all flights, including a bottle of water and a snack, such as a breakfast bar or crisps. British Airways collaborated closely with Tom to create these British staples for the short-haul menu, and he produced a video explaining the thought process behind ensuring the flavors work well at altitude.

“I am truly happy to be working with British Airways again, and to have the opportunity to champion the best of British to so many people,” he says. “A sandwich, made with care and great flavors, can be a perfect meal, and I hope the passengers enjoy my short-haul menu.”

The menu items can be explored through the new online Speedbird Café hosted on British Airways’ inflight retail site here.
