Overcome Doomscrolling in 2025: Discover How Iceland Can Help

Experience Joyscroll: A New Way to Explore Iceland

Iceland has launched a quirky new website aimed at encouraging travelers to replace doomscrolling—the compulsive consumption of negative news and social media content—with a more uplifting experience known as “joyscrolling.”

Introducing Joyscroll

The Icelandic tourism board created the site after conducting an in-depth study in 2020, revealing how much time people spent doomscrolling on their phones. This interactive platform allows users to combat the habitual urge for negativity by immersing themselves in joyful sights and sounds from Iceland.

A Journey Through Joy

Visitors can enjoy a 75-foot-long feed filled with:

  • Gorgeous nature scenes
  • Inspirational quotes
  • Joyful musical performances from Icelandic stars like Auður, Júníus Meyvant, Gugusar, and Ólafur Arnalds

Research indicates that, on average, each person scrolls through 74.47 feet of content in their social media feeds daily. To make this experience engaging, Joyscroll includes a real-time measurement tool that tracks the distance users joyscroll while they explore Icelandic waterfalls, geysers, unique wildlife, mesmerizing northern lights, and traditional local cuisine.

Additional Features for Relaxation

Moreover, the website offers a guided breathing section to promote mindfulness and relaxation. Sigríður Dög Guðmundsdóttir, head of Visit Iceland, shared, “We hope our content will offer an escape and bring a smile to the world. Hopefully, sometime soon, people will be able to enjoy it in real life. We look forward to welcoming that day!”
