Creative Couple Inspires Through Abandoned Laundry
83-year-old Wan-Ji Chang and his wife, 84-year-old Sho-Er Hsu, have been captivating the internet by dressing up in clothes that have been abandoned in their laundromat in Taiwan for decades. Their unique outfits, ranging from leather jackets and berets to tartan dungarees, have garnered the attention of thousands of followers around the world.
The idea to start posing in these forgotten garments originated from their grandson, Reef Chang. This fun project not only showcases their quirky personalities and sense of humor but also aims to raise awareness about the surprising number of items left behind in laundromats. Reef expressed, “Since I have been aware of the problem that no one takes the laundry since I was a child, I hope that through this move I will let everyone know that they must remember to pick up clothes or help them find a new owner. Plus, I hope to give my grandparents some change and fun in their later life!”
According to Reef, his grandparents were initially skeptical. “They agreed at the beginning, but they thought no one would like it.” They were pleasantly surprised, as the Instagram account Want Show as Young quickly gained over 600,000 followers, receiving positive messages from diverse countries that confirmed their inspirational impact.
The laundromat, known as Wan Sho Laundry, is located in and has been in operation for nearly 70 years. Approximately 300 items remain in the laundry, left from the past six decades. Notably, the account successfully reunited two people with their forgotten garments after they discovered the laundromat featured in the news.
Reef Chang stated that the family aims to continue reconnecting people with their lost clothing while promoting sustainable fashion brands and highlighting important environmental causes.
