Mobile Studio Producer Helps Musicians Record Songs in Unique Locations

George Holliday is a talented songwriter, musician, and producer hailing from the United Kingdom. With a profound passion for exploring new destinations and creating compelling art, he embarked on an extraordinary project known as Made On The Road. This initiative allows him to traverse Europe in a unique studio-on-wheels, assisting artists in recording music in breathtaking locations.

Dubbed as a hub on wheels for creatives, the ex-library bus serves as George’s home, office, and creative studio. He engages with clients in various stunning locales, collaborating closely to craft music that resonates with their artistic vision. In 2019, George extended an invitation for collaborators, which culminated in the production of a 16-track album named Made On The Road, recorded over six months at 60 unique locations.

“I possess a profound love for travel, yet as a piano player, I depend significantly on my keyboard for songwriting and production. Following the vanlife trend on Instagram, I realized it was the ideal way to merge my two passions, enabling me to hit the road. Consequently, I have developed this concept into a music production company with a small global team, taking our artist clients to picturesque locations for music creation,” George shared.

To date, George has journeyed through Croatia, Germany, France, , Belgium, , Slovenia, and Austria while also traversing the UK in the bus. With the album now recorded, he collaborates with other songwriters and musicians, aiming to produce their musical works. The diverse locations not only provide isolation for focused work but also serve as sources of inspiration, both visually and audibly. The scenic views are instrumental in placing musicians in the right mindset, while George often captures field recordings of the surroundings to incorporate into the songs.

Like many individuals in the creative sector, George has faced challenges due to the impact of COVID-19. This situation has compelled him to rethink his approach to the project and redefine his goals. “The primary challenge is that artists heavily depend on touring for income, so the inability to perform live has resulted in significant financial losses, which subsequently impacts writers and producers like myself. Nevertheless, the internet has allowed us to establish innovative methods for writing and recording with artists. Remarkably, the bus enables us to venture away from urban areas, into nature, creating a safer environment for artists to work outside the constraints of the pandemic,” he explains.
