Qatar Airways Crew to Use Disposable Full-Body Suits for Enhanced Safety

Qatar Airways Implements Enhanced Safety Measures

Over the last few months, airlines have been forced to adapt to flight disruptions and cancellations due to the ongoing pandemic. Consequently, Qatar Airways has announced a series of essential measures aimed at increasing security on board. This includes cabin crew wearing disposable full-body protective gear during flights to ensure passenger safety.

Key Safety Measures Introduced

The airline’s precautionary measures are focused on minimizing interactions between passengers and crew. Significant changes are being introduced, such as:

  • Mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) suits for cabin crew while on-board.
  • Modified service protocols that reduce direct interactions between passengers and crew inflight.
  • Continuation of gloves and face masks for cabin crew, augmented by protective suits and safety goggles.

Passenger Guidelines for Inflight Safety

Starting from May 25, all passengers will be required to wear face coverings inflight, and Qatar Airways recommends bringing personal masks for comfort. Additionally, travelers are encouraged to adhere to hygiene practices recommended by the World Health Organization, including:

  • Regular handwashing
  • Avoiding face-touching

Changes in Cabin Environment

Additionally, social areas on board aircraft have been closed to promote social distancing. Key features include:

  • Partitions and fully closing doors in Qsuite Business Class.
  • Business-class meals will be served on trays, while economy class meals and cutlery are served as usual.
  • Large hand sanitiser bottles available for both cabin crew and passengers in galleys.

Commitment to Hygiene and Safety

As stated by Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker, “We have introduced these additional safety measures on board our flights to ensure the continued health and wellbeing of our passengers and cabin crew, and to limit the spread of coronavirus. Our hygiene standards are paramount to fly people home safely during this time.”

For further safety, the airline’s linen and blankets undergo thorough washing, drying, and pressing at microbial lethal temperatures. Headsets are sanitized rigorously after each flight, and Hamad International Airport has invested in deploying disinfectant robots equipped with UV-C light technology.

As global lockdowns ease, travelers are encouraged to stay informed about how COVID-19 is altering travel dynamics.
