It may seem like an unusual place for a Hollywood A-lister to spend the lockdown, but Matt Damon is currently spending the travel-restricted period caused by COVID-19 in an attractive Irish village by the sea.
The actor was in Dublin to shoot scenes for the historical drama-thriller, “The Last Duel,” in which he portrays protagonist Jean de Carrouges. However, on March 13, Disney announced that the studio had to delay the Ridley Scott-directed shoot indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Consequently, Matt and his family have remained in Dublin, where residents must stay at home and are only permitted to exercise within 2km of their residences.
The Oscar-winner is residing in the picturesque coastal village of Dalkey with his wife Luciana Barroso and their four children: Alexia, Isabella, Gia, and Stella. Dalkey is among the most exclusive areas of Dublin, boasting a beautiful seaside setting and being home to U2’s Bono and music star Enya. Notably, Matt is reportedly staying at Ischia, an exclusive property owned by racing star Eddie Irvine. This luxurious accommodation is typically rented through Airbnb for €7000 ($7596) per week and features an outdoor pool, cinema room, snooker and games room, along with a large hot tub offering breathtaking views across Dublin Bay.
Locals have enjoyed having the Oscar-winner in their community, and he was seen having a pint at Finnegan’s pub prior to the lockdown and jogging around the town.
He enjoyed lunch with his family at The Corner Note Café, where he posed for a photo with owner Mary Caviston. “Matt and his family were very polite, pleasant and lovely-mannered,” Mary shared. “It was a pleasure to serve them.”
The star also took a photo with owner and executive chef Raouff Djeffal while dining at Ouzos steak and seafood restaurant. Furthermore, he has been maintaining a relatively low profile, although one image of him emerging from the sea holding a plastic SuperValu supermarket bag, apparently containing his swimming trunks, stirred interest on local social media.
“The Last Duel,” also stars Ben Affleck, Adam Driver, and Jodie Comer, but Matt appears to be the only one who decided to remain in Dublin instead of returning to his Brooklyn penthouse once the coronavirus measures were initiated.
