Sapporo Snow Festival 2025: Japan’s Iconic Winter Celebration Begins

The 67th annual Sapporo Snow Festival opened on Japan’s northernmost island of Hokkaidō today, attracting expectations of more than 2.3 million visitors before it concludes on February 11.

Festival Highlights

The Sapporo Snow Festival is one of the largest snow and ice sculpture events worldwide. This year, it features over 200 impressive sculptures located across various sites. Notable locations include Ōdōri Kōen (Ōdōri Park), which extends 1.5 km through Sapporo’s vibrant downtown area. Among the standout sculptures are:

  • A life-sized bullet train carriage
  • An enormous figure from the popular manga series Attack on Titan
  • Replicas of iconic buildings

Moreover, as part of this exciting event, 12 international teams will compete in a breathtaking snow sculpture contest from February 5 to February 7. This competition adds an extra layer of engagement and global participation to the festival.
