Celebrity-Led Sustainable Cruises on Golden Horizon

Two interesting celebrity-led cruises are taking place on the incredible cruise ship, Golden Horizon, which takes 70% of its power from natural sources.

As the world’s largest square-rigged ship, Golden Horizon embodies sustainable cruising with excellent on-board facilities. These include a beauty salon, gym, spa with sauna, hammam, snow room, and Jacuzzi, as well as five bars—including a piano bar—and three swimming pools. The ship features a two-floor dining room serving local, sustainably-sourced produce whenever possible, and has eliminated plastic straws and water bottles entirely.

iBestTravel has collaborated with Tradewind Voyages to offer two exclusive holiday experiences aboard Golden Horizon, complete with celebrity experts. The first voyage departs from Scotland in May 2021 and journeys to Iceland, where passengers have the unique opportunity to learn about volcanoes with renowned wildlife presenter Kate Humble. Highlights of the trip include visiting the Eyjafjallajökull, Katla, and Hekla volcanoes, as well as the chance to explore a real lava tunnel. Excursions will feature bathing in restorative geothermal pools, riding Icelandic horses, and sailing through stunning fjords.

The second trip includes stops in Belfast, the Giant’s Causeway, and the breathtaking Antrim coast, along with a voyage to the Isle of Man. This leg allows passengers to board a vintage train to the summit of Snaefell mountain. Additionally, the cruise sails to Dublin, where guests can explore Malahide Castle and Dublin Bay. The celebrated broadcaster and environmentalist, Liz Bonnin, will host a talk entitled ‘The Problem with Plastics’ and participate in a unique Q&A session aboard. She will also guide a visit to Tresco Abbey Gardens to admire the vibrant plant life of the unspoiled Isles of Scilly, along with a boat trip around the eastern islands to experience wildlife.

Travelers can enjoy a series of educational talks on the natural world while on the ship. The itineraries include stop-offs that emphasize local wildlife and nature conservation. Excursions to organic farms and vineyards offer enriching experiences, complemented by cooking demonstrations and wine tastings on board. Notably, the removal of all inside cabins guarantees passengers breathtaking views of their surroundings. Moreover, as Golden Horizon accommodates fewer passengers than other vessels of similar size, it effectively reduces its overall carbon footprint. This small-ship cruising experience allows for visits to smaller ports and minimizes time moored at sea, consequently decreasing unnecessary engine use and pollution.
