The Tokyo Edition, Toranomon is ready to welcome guests to what can only be described as the hotel company’s coolest offering yet.

Officially opened on Oct. 20, this marks the first Edition hotel in Japan. Designed in partnership with renowned architect Kengo Kuma, Ian Schrager, and Miwako Date, the president and CEO of Mori Trust, the hotel pays homage to the city’s rich past while maintaining a firm connection to the future.

Luxurious Accommodations

Inside, guests can choose from 206 rooms, including 22 suites, and explore over 10 entertaining and working spaces. The restaurants and bars are adorned in black, blue, and jade, inspired by the precious stones and rare elements sapphires, Japanese jade, and gold.

“Nothing makes me more excited than seeing the Edition Hotel open in Tokyo, a favorite destination of mine and the place I was born,” Arne Sorenson, president and CEO of Marriott International, shared in a statement. “In partnership with Mori Trust and my friend Ian Schrager, The Tokyo Edition, Toranomon is a beacon of hope and optimism for the future, a place where thousands of travelers and local customers will be welcomed in the years ahead. This hotel symbolizes our return to travel, togetherness, and joy.”

Moreover, Schrager expressed his deep connection with Japan, highlighting the significance of its rationality, simplicity, and restraint in his work. He emphasized how captivated he was by Kuma’s design aesthetic, noting its original thinking executed with humility.

Inspired Design

The hotel design is inspired by Buddhist temples, reflecting a sense of structure, purpose, and organization. Consequently, the two-story lobby serves as a centralized gathering place, encouraging communal interactions.

The hotel’s dining experience is overseen by world-renowned Michelin-starred chef Tom Aikens. Notably, The Blue Room offers all-day dining with fabulous views and The Jade Room features a bespoke menu showcasing local Japanese flavors. Guests can unwind at The Jade Room + Garden Terrace, sitting 450 feet above the street, providing a serene escape from city bustle.
