If you’re heading to Aspen this winter to explore its magnificent ski slopes, be aware that this popular ski destination now mandates visitors to undergo COVID-19 testing.
Aspen is renowned as one of the world’s most famous mountain destinations with its four ski slopes offering some of Colorado’s finest powder turns. Furthermore, the excellent restaurants scattered throughout the historic downtown area enhance the experience, attracting hordes of visitors annually. Recently, Pitkin County announced a requirement for travelers aged ten years and older to arrive with a negative COVID-19 test result to protect the local community as the winter ski season begins.
Travelers arriving at Aspen/Pitkin County Airport must complete a “travel affidavit” online, in which they must upload evidence of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of their arrival in Pitkin County. Additionally, they must be symptom-free for at least 10 days prior to travel. Consequently, those who arrive without having completed a test will be required to quarantine for 10 days upon arrival, while travelers whose results have not returned will also need to quarantine until they receive their results. Failure to comply may result in a violation of a public health order, with fines reaching up to US$5000 (€4115).
As this ruling specifically pertains to Pitkin County, travelers arriving from other areas of Colorado must comply with the same requirements. The travel affidavit applies to those spending one or more nights in the county; however, it does not apply to visitors who are only there for the day. Additionally, those who regularly commute to Pitkin County for school or work are exempt from this requirement.
