Join New York’s Fall Foliage Tracker as a Leaf Peeper

The New York tourism board is seeking an I LOVE NY Leaf Peeper to join a dedicated team responsible for tracking fall foliage across the state. This initiative aims to identify and report on the most stunning locations to enjoy the beautiful fall colors this season.

As the season changes, trees transform into hues of crimson and orange, while parks, forests, and pathways become adorned with a vibrant carpet of multicolored leaves. If you are familiar with a particular sugar maple radiating brilliance at this time of year, or perhaps a cluster of russet trees always putting on a display, then you could contribute by becoming New York’s official ‘leaf peeper.’

Participants in this volunteer program will deliver weekly reports detailing the colors observed in their region, along with a forecast predicting the leaf stages for the upcoming weekend. ‘Peak’ refers to the ideal time for spectators to witness the full splendor of fall foliage.

According to the job posting, volunteers will need to provide information regarding the location of their observations, the percentage of leaves expected to change by the following weekend, anticipated colors, overall brilliance, and the season’s current stage. Observations will be submitted to the New York tourism board every Monday and Tuesday, ensuring the compiled report is published each Wednesday from the second week of September until mid-November. This initiative is designed to assist both tourists and local enthusiasts in discovering the best spots for fall foliage viewing throughout the state.
